I have normally very dark brown hair. (my roots currently) I've had my hair lightened to a redish brown color. im wondering now if i try to dye my own hair at home...will the salon color turn a weird color? and what will happen to my already dark roots?! should i not even risk doing it myself? and just pay the billions of dollars to have it done by a pro??!

It really depends on the type of products you are using and what color you are wanting to dye it. All color products are basically the same. It's the developer that makes the difference. Right now, the underlying pigment in your hair is red. You have dyed it that color. If you are wanting to keep it the same color and can find that color in a home coloring product, the results should be about the same. It shouldn't affect you basic color. Now, if you are wanting to do a different color, like going lighter, I would reccomend going back to the same salon that you had it done in. The keep a record ( usually) of what products they have used on your hair so they know what to expect when you come back for a follow up treatment. Here are some tips if you are going to just do a basic retouch at home:
Start with your roots first! The heat from your head will make the lightening process go much quicker than the rest of your hair. Once you have done the roots, apply the rest of the color to your hair. This ensures that your hair is all the basic same color. It won't effect the pigment if it's the basic same color.
If you are curious about what exactly they did to your hair and what to buy, you can call the place that did your color and they will give you the information on the color and what the closest thing to buy is.
If you really like the color job they did, I would reccomend going back to them maybe once every few months to have them do it again. They might be able to restore the luster.
If you need more tips or have more questions about this, please feel free to IM me or e-mail me. I am more than happy to help. Good luck!

Hey don't go to color your hair by yourself. Do it with a pro. If you mess something your hair will start turning grey. Even if you go to salon that would be better but try to get some herbal based color rather than chemical base one as it will be better. And about roots they won't be changed much as you cut your hair short your hair color will be back to normal.

Dont try doing by your self if your not sure about the result. Call your hairdresser and ask her if u combine the color you have and want what she thinks will be the result. Are just let a pro do it......good luck!!

well see it depends if your going lighter thats a bigger risk because than the other colors (undertones) can start showing depending on what you are using but if you are going darker than ther should not be a problem at all.If you using the same color than that should be easy to.
