not just hispanic people or gay males that are inflicted with h.i.v., aids, but not to many people know this, because it's not ever hardly mentioned. why is this? do you really think it's the irresponsability of having unprotected sex or partners who've shared dirty needles, or a country who ignores the fact that 68% of black americans have this fatal sickness, i am white and i am wondering, now, what do you think, do we all really need to rush over to africa, including black artist, so they can say, they've done their part, when it's right here, in front of us???

you are totally right. and the statistics are also correct. but there are a lots of white people including children that have HIV .yes we should fix whats wrong here and let them in africa take care of themselves, thats whats wrong with the united states today. we have sick starving people right here, even possibly on your own street, and the goverment dont give a big care if they live or die. but let another country holler we are hungry or sick and there goes boat loads of food and med. supplies to them. go figure.

68% of black Americans have AIDS? Your source? There is nothing in the link you posted that supports your statement.
You seem to feel that efforts should be focused on eradicating AIDS in the United States before other countries. The problem with that is the United States has, compared to those other countries, the problem under control as far as prevention and treatment go. In countries like Africa, there is no prevention, there is no medicine, there is no money or education. That is where the help is needed most.
You also seem to think that unprotected sex and sharing dirty needles is something more relevant to minorities than whites. I can tell you that there are more white homosexuals than black ones, and you can look that up. I can also tell you that drug addiction and promiscuity are more of a social class issue than a race issue. Have you not heard of trailer trash? Women who don't know who their baby's father is come in all colors - what they have in common is that they are all POOR and UNDEREDUCATED. Same as the people in Africa, you see how that works?
Ignorance and poverty. Get rid of those and you stand a chance of getting rid of AIDS.

You're right we should be taking a look at our country and realizing that there is poverty, illness, and children going hungry right in front of our faces. On the other hand, people in Africa don't have the means to just walk to a store and buy condoms or stop by a planned parenthood and pick some up and many people there don't even know what to do to protect themselves because of lack of education. So I think even though people should be taking a better look at our country and helping out here too, it's not wrong to be helping people in Africa or other third world countries catch up with sexual education and awareness.

White people created the virus and not only that have been doing God knows what to Black people for hundreds of years. I really suggest you learn about your folks by reading the story about Miss Evers Boys and also learn about Aids By reading the story printed in Rolling Stone Magazine. Never point a finger or pre judge. You just might get embarrassed.

Most country's goals are to make allies, in rushing over to African countries world leaders may think they are making an ally to be utilized later. As far as rushing over there as a person I see no problem with it as most African nations do not have proper health care and the knowledge of AIDS and HIV over there is backwards to say the least. Its is incredible to believe that you can heal your backyard but not your neighbors at the same time, especially if theres no fence to keep your "grass" apart. What I'm saying is, AIDS and HIV isnt just an American problem, its for everyone to deal with. If we forget one nation we might as well let them all fall under this terrible disease.
ps. I think 68% is a bit high of an estimation.

"country who ignores the fact that 68% of black americans have this fatal sickness,"
where do you get your stats? The worse-case stats show that 40% of those with AIDS identifies themself as "african american" and most other research sites have even lower numbers.
Also look at the % of poor people dying of AIDS versus the rest of the population. It's not just a "black" problem.

Part of the reason why we seem to put more effort into foreign aid than we do in domestic aid is because in America, people are subject to the choices that they make. In many foreign countries they do not have a choice. In america, most cases of STD's is a result of unsafe practices when it comes to sex. But in many foreign countries people are infected as a result forcible sex acts, an overbearing government that strives to keep the people ignorant, or the result of poor medical practices of govt owned medical facilities.

The CDC seems to mention it.
Racial and ethnic minority populations have been disproportionately affected by HIV infection and AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic in the United States. Through December 1992, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had received reports of 75,997 blacks, 42,199 Hispanics, 1,610 Asians/Pacific Islanders, and 448 American Indians/Alaska Natives who have AIDS. In 1992, 47 percent of all reported AIDS cases were among blacks and Hispanics, while they represent only 21 percent of the U.S. population.
Minority women and children have been particularly hard hit. In both New York State and New Jersey, AIDS is already the leading cause of death among black women 15-44 years of age. And in New York State in 1988, AIDS became the leading cause of death among Hispanic children 1-4 years of age, and the second leading cause of death among black children in the same age group.
Reported AIDS Cases Annual Rate per 100,000 Population, By Race/Ethnicity-- 1992
Number of cases per 100,000
Non-Hispanic Black 52.2 Hispanic 29.9 Non-Hispanic White 11.7 American Indian/Alaska Native 6.0 Asian/Pacific Islander 3.8
These statistics do not indicate individuals are at risk just because they are a member of a racial or ethnic minority group-- these numbers simply reflect the fact that minority populations are disproportionately represented in communities that have a high incidence of HIV infection. HIV prevention efforts must take into account not only the multiracial and multicultural nature of our society, but also other social and economic factors, such as poverty, underemployment, and poor access to the health care system, that disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minority populations.
CDC has numerous HIV prevention programs that benefit racial and ethnic minority populations.

If I'm correct, .3% of the USA has HIV/AIDS. If you add that percent up with all of the other African americans who have the disease in the world then that totals nowhere near 68%. That .3% is all races in the USA. I think that you need to recheck your facts. That is completely wrong.

That doesn't sound like a fact to me.
Obviously, there isn't a lot of monogamy being practiced in the black community. And I base that on the numbers of children that don't have a daddy. Individual responsibility seems to be lacking.
