If one must breastfeed in public, it is easy enough to cover the area with a receiving blanket or a cloth diaper, both of which are small/thin enough to allow the baby room to breathe and also keep others from having to be graphically exposed to what is happening. I'm all for breastfeeding and understand that it's natural, but within the past month I have returned from a convention where a couple had a 3-month-old child -- I was certain the baby was going to weigh 50 pounds by the end of the weekend, because every time you looked up it was being fed. There's a difference between taking care of a natural need and exhibitionism.

I've never seen a breastfeeding mother expose her entire breast in public. Generally it's the opposite--they drape themselves lightly with a blanket and keep the baby and their breasts covered.
I suggest the next time you're out and want to grab a bite to eat, you order your food and have the waitress deliver it to you while YOU'RE in the restroom. What? What's that? That's disgusting you say? Of course it is! Adults shouldn't have to eat in public toilets, and neither should breastfeeding babies.
Personally, I've seen more "skin" on teenage girls walking around the mall shopping than I have on nursing mothers. If you don't like it, don't look--it's as simple as that.

"Who wants to see a nasty, just had a baby areola?"
I don't know...maybe the just-had baby? ;)
I'll respect the opinions of those who are disgusted by breasts in public, but frankly I am much more sympathetic to the mothers who have to feed their children. As much as motherhood is revered in our society, it is amazing how shameful breastfeeding mothers are still made to feel.
There's the "if they can breastfeed in public, I should be able to pee all over everything" group. That doesn't even make sense. She's not spraying milk all over every surface. It's going directly into the baby's mouth. To anyone who demands that a breastfeeding mother go into the bathroom and sit on the toilet while she feeds her child, I say, "You first--you go on into the bathroom to eat your breakfast."
Then there's the "well, breastfeeding's okay, as long as kids don't see" contigent. Why? Do you think they're going to be sexually turned on by the sight of a milk-swollen breast? How do you explain the fact that the children who live in cultures where the women walk around with free breasts don't all grow up to be deviants?
Breasts' primary purpose to feed young humans. Just because society has decided to draw away from it in the past century or so doesn't decrease that purpose one bit. Yes, breasts can also be seen in a sexual context, and that is fine and fun, but when that starts to supercede the primary purpose, that is when we have problems.

Yeah, it is-but it's mother nature. Although you should be courtesy of others when doing so in public-but I think that little rugrat can wait-unless she (mother) is just looking to stir up things, cause she thinks people want to she her lard of a tit or she thinks because she just had a baby, she's entitled to do such personal things in public and the public to be OK with it-but she's got it all wrong-ewww !

It's not about you, it's about providing healthy milk to an infant. The needs of a baby to eat outweigh your need to be shielded from things you deem disgusting.

Grow up!! Breastmilk is the best thing a baby can have. If a baby is hungry, you feed it. There is absolutely no reason why a woman should be ashamed to provide nourishment for her child because of a**holes like you.

Jesus Christ! Grow the hell up! If you don't like the sight then don't look at it. No one is forcing you to look.
It's a natural thing they are doing, and I don't think they will go to the restrooms just because you don't like looking at it.

Look away. You are not an infant. You have control of your head. Turn it in another direction. I agree it is kind of gross but I just don't look.
