I need to buy a birthday cake for my daughter - its her first Birthday!! and we want to make it special. We are new to NY and were wondering if anyone had tips on where we could get some good birthday cakes - preferably in downtown Manhatten. Thx.

They have a Strawberry Shortcake that is very light and not too sweet (some birthday cakes, especially kids' can very heavy and sweet, with butter cream frosting). This cake is always a big hit. They'll do a custom inscription for free, but nothing fancy. If you're more concerned with Disney graphics, you'll have to go elsewhere. The cake comes in many sizes but the smallest one (on their website) is $19 and serves 8 (according to them). It might be cheaper if you go to the store.

If your daughter likes strawberries, she'll love this cake. If she likes Dora the Explorer more, you're out of luck.

Congratulations and welcome to NY.
