Love has a few meanings and it depends on who, or Who, is involved.

Love of God is "agape" and it involves "worship" and spiritual growth.

However, if you are referring to human love, then there are a few types:

Love of ourselves is necessary in order for us to be able to function with ourselves and with others. Love of ourselves is NOT self-centered, preoccupation with ourselves and our own needs, but it means developing and having a healthy self-respect and self-esteem. With this fact in place, we can love others.

Loving others depends on who they are to us, e.g., parents, children, friends, a spouse, or a significant other.

In a loving relationship with anyone, we must remember to love them properly. We must NOT allow them...no matter who they are...to lead us into situations that are not good for us...or for them. We must not follow blindly and we must lead others strongly and rightly, most especially by our own good example.

In the beginning of a "love interest" relationship, infatuation is almost always part of our "attaction". It's normal and it is, most of the time, what initiates a relationship that can be strong and life-long. However, in time, infatuation can wane and real love...devotion and keeping our word...must develop to sustain the relationship.

To aid you and other posters in understanding infatuation and "real" love, I recommend the book, "The Road Less Traveled", by M. Scott Peck, M.D., subtitled, "A New Psychology of Love, Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth." It is available on borrow from libraries.

All the best of love and life to you and all posters.

I think love is when you truly care about someone, even their flaws. And you don't try to change them. You work through every problem together, and there's compromise, trust, and respect for both partners.

Love is not so much a feeling or emotion, it is a behavior. How you behave towards someone ultimately determines what you feel for them.

Probably a million ways to answer this. I think it is a special level of devotion to someone. A desire to put their needs first. When making them happy makes you happy; as does just being near them. (And on and on...)
