Definition: acronym for Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools a not-for-profit, immigration neutral organization which governs procedures for foreign educated nurses seeking employment in the U.S. A Certification Program which includes an examination of nursing proficiency (equivalent to the NCLEX) and English language proficiency, as well as a Credentials Evaluation Service are provided by this organization to help ensure that the foreign educated nurses meet U.S. Boards of Nursing registration/licensing requirements.
Have you taken the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) Qualifying Exam? Yes _____ No_____ If yes, CGFNS ID#_____________________________________. If no, date scheduled to take examination ________________. Contact the Virginia State Board of Nursing and they will give you the requirements you need. An RN who is already licensed in the U.S. has reciprocity.

I am already here in Va, i called them about a year ago and YES you need to take CGFNS as one of the requirements.
