The reference to a serpent or dragon is often the reference to Satan himself. This verse means that Satan will deceive many into not believing/following God.

I bet it means satan (sometimes called the dragon) deceived the world. Where it tells that is in Revelation 20, when he deceives the nations and gets them to go to war against God.

As satan deceived Adam and Eve he has been leading all mortal men ever since into death.
Disobeying God's commandment is a sin and the wages of sin is death.satan was created as a spirit so cannot ever die and his wish is to lead all of mankind to death to counter God's plan of turning over the rule of the universe to man.
As mankind has free moral choice we can follow satans way of get or God's way of give.

It means that the devil will come looking like Christ, deceiving the world. This is his tribulation. Put it this way, if you see Christ in Jerusalem and you are still in the flesh, than, that is the fake Christ, the antichrist.

Think about it.

God says that the wages of sin is death.
Satan says "thou shalt not truly die"....
Even today, we see people telling us how "cool" it will be in "hell"...they think it's gonna be one HUGE party.
Poor deluded souls don't realize, Satan's done gone and tricked 'em again.
