Legally, NO

Where I work our insurance company *requires* that we get a copy of a person's drivers liscence before they can take a vehcle on a test drive.

We only do a credit check after a customer has given us their information on a credit application.

I work at a dealership and I can't do this without your write approval......if you have really good credit don't let them look at it.....only if you know this then work the price down first and then multiply it by 20 and you should be close to what your payments will be......if you are within your budget and want the car then provide them credit information......do not let them work payments at all until you agree on the sale price

I am a car salesperson, have been for over 25 years, and the answer is NO! However,we will have to check your credit at some point if you want to finance the car.

They only check your credit history if you sign a form to let them do it. The easy solution is to not sign anything until you are serious about buying the car.

They can't check your credit report without your SS# and your permission. Some states use the SS# as a drivers license number.
