Imagine..... John Lennon ..... I love that song. The lyrics, one of em is:
.......I am dreamer, I'm not the only one, someday I hope you'll join me!
Just no religion? Why boundaries, differences in race, color, caste,......?

It could be suggested that, at least historically, religion has served to give humanity the hope it needed to endure the most oppressive and cruel circumstances of human existence. However, it is also true that all too often religion itself has been a force of that cruelty and oppression.
Today, however, there can be no doubt. We live in a very complicated world and face complicated issues. The simple answers of religion are comforting and relieve us of our burden to think about the issues we face, but, in fact, the answers religion offers to today's problems are inadequate to solve them and even contribute to the increasing severity of the problems. Religion has finally become, beyond all shadow of doubt, the enemy of humanity. Religious fundamentalism in particular threatens the world. If we don't think about the crises we face; if we don't use our capacity to Reason and the best evidence and solutions that Science can offer; then humanity will not exist in another few centuries. It is that simple. The conclusion can only be then that the world would be safer without religion.

Sorry, I know you said just pick one (safer or worse off), but I honestly believe it wouldn't make any difference at all. 'Religion' is just a way for groups of people with similar beliefs to band together, on the basis that there's safety in numbers. If there was no religion, people would still need to 'belong' to a group, so we'd get the 'fair haired group', the 'blue eyed group', the 'over 6 foot tall group', etc, etc. And when the 'fair haired group' decided that they were better than the 'dark haired group', inevitably some sort of conflict would result, which would probably start with name-calling, then angry press releases, then a few 'demonstrations', then the first car bomb and eventually a full-scale war. And, unfortunately, religion (or a need to belong) is basically the cause of every war.
So my answer to your question would, sadly, be 'the same'

That's a tough one, especially since "worser" is not a word. And isn't it "if they wuz"? Just trying to get my parameters straight here. Okay, here we go:
The world would be worse off without religion IF there wasn't something to take its place, like global spirituality and an effusion of love from above.

Well I can't just pick one because I vehemently deny religion's responsibility for war but rather agree with those who think that it's really just the belligerent need to prove one's beliefs wrong and one's own right. They would in fact find another reason to engage in conflict due to their evil concentration. But religion has a way of instilling faith in people which leads to charitable and selfless acts of kindness for the good of humanity. These are far more plentiful statistically but more overlooked because they don't draw enough attention to the media, typically. But then again, the decent and wholesome nature of these individuals would still enrich humanity without it. I've witnessed both ends of the spectrum first hand so it is difficult for me to pick one. Sorry.

not really safer... religion is from trend of thoughts. this thought can take many forms, just like communism and democatic. Left or right is another different of perception. we cannot stop them from taking the trend. Religion is just a belief, but it's human who create plenty of belief.

The world will only be better if each of us learn more about life. Books, music, film.
