It has been there but only those who were allergic knew. Until recently, because of so many lawsuits, the public was never really made aware of how deadly a peanut allergy really is.

There were problems before, you just didn't hear about them as much. The incidence of peanut allergy is on the rise. The best theory I've heard as to why this is occuring is called the Hygiene Hypothesis. Basically, this says that our society is obsessed with anti-bacterial products and we don't allow our kids to get the same childhood illnesses as we had when we were kids. This lack of common illnesses causes the child's immune system to go down an "allergic" pathway since it is not busy fighting infections. There have been multiple studies that show that kids that grow up on farms, have a certain illness in childhood, or even those in daycare or with older siblings have less allergies overall than other kids that don't. It is a very interesting situation we have created in our "clean" environment. See- mom was right- dirt IS good for you!

I've had mine for over 50 years. When I was a boy no one talked about it, and I felt I was the only one. As years went on and I continued asking if food offered me had peanuts, peanut butter, peanut oil, etc in it more and more people understood. Also having an allergic reaction in a restaurant ... after being told they didn't use any peanut products ... I got almost to the bathroom before letting loose with a large amount of vomit, a doctor having dinner with his family saw and helped .... well at least one restaurant knows to be sure when they say no peanut...
yes some people die with this allergy, and more of us have made the allergy visible.

Oh gosh its always been there. I am one that cannot have them. I have a food allergy to them. Some ppl cant even be around peanuts without swelling up and having trouble breathing. I have noticed that if I eat something that was packaged where peanuts were packaged, I will get the allergy.

Funny you say that..... growing up I never knew anyone allergic to peanuts(I'm in my mid twenty's). Then about 2 years ago I worked at a children's entertainment center doing parties. I swear about half of those kids were allergic to peanuts....we had to tell everyone we were a peanut free facility...we had to make sure the vendors didn't put nuts in the machines. One time I found someone in the cafeteria eating a peanut butter sandwich. the owners had me tell them to throw away their sandwiches, wash ther hands or leave...........it was nuts... It does seem like allergies to nuts are on the rise. Why??? I have no idea.....but I dont like it...

I think it's always been there, but it's only been in recent years that the non-allergy suffering segment of the population has been more concious of trying not to expose people to the things they're allergic to. Nut allergies can be lethal, and nobody wants their friends or co-workers to die (I hope!)

My husband has an same hypersensitive reaction; i do not devour peanut butter. yet soy butter and sesame butter are danger-free from him. there is not something incorrect with asking a guy you imagine you would possibly want to prefer to kiss "even as do you very last devour peanut butter? Reese's products? customary M&M's? something with peanut butter." extra importantly, your physician can provide you with an EPIPEN ( it calls for a prescription), so as that if you're uncovered to nuts, you've longer than 20 minutes to get to the emergency room.
