I'm asking just out of curiosity. He's not cheap at all. Between us we have 3 small children and are active. With the height of a solitaire, sometimes it can contrast with being active, but an anniversary ring has the chance to be worn all the time.
Those that want to make snide and disrespectful remarks need not post.

Actually, my engagement ring looks like a wedding band. I like it like that because no one actuallyknows that its an engagement ring and because both me and my fiance both dislike the prong setting. So he got me channel set diamonds instead.
If you lead an active lifestyle, the prong can be especially dangerous because you run the risk of injuring yourself or other people accidentally or even losing the stone all together. Go with something that you feel comfortable with and something that you love.

Personally I think it's silly that rings are categorized. I helped my brother go shopping for an engagement ring for his girlfriend and the sales people insisted that we stay next to the "engagement" ring section. Who cares? It's a ring and signifies your mutual love for each other. I helped him pick out a ring, that wasn't in the "engagement" ring section. It was a pretty Anethyst stone. With two small diamonds on the sides. She absolutely loved it.
I've never heard of someone who used an "anniversary" band as an engagement ring. But I say right on! It's a gesture of love and who cares what label some jeweler put on it.

YES!!! My boyfriend couldn't afford to buy me the ring he wanted me to have because we have 4 kids and he was also worried I wouldn't like it...So one day we were at Walmart and he saw an Always and Forever anniversary band worry ring type and that is what is my engagment ring for now..and when I get a real one I will move my anniversary band to my right hand

I have an anniversary band as my wedding/engagement ring. We didn't have the $ for an engagement ring, so I picked out a pretty ring with some diamonds to serve as both rings. Just pick out what you like- screw the norm!

You can use anything you want as an engagement ring - it doesn't have to be a solitaire. But I think you'd want something called an anniversary band to be saved for that occasion.

You can use anything you want as an engagement ring - all that matters is that you both agree that that's what it is. Mine is a row of six smallish diamonds - in the jewellery store we bought it from, the woman thought that it was more of a "promise ring," but really the only difference is in what you call it. (According to the jewellry stores, the difference is in how much you spend. But that's garbage, in my opinion.) Some people use things other than diamond too - my friend wanted a pearl for her engagement ring.

dare to be original/different. if an anniversary ring is what makes you happy, what do you care what other people think? It matters not what other people think of your ring(s), but what you are comfortable with and will get the most use out of is what really matters.
my wedding set from my late husband was a 1 carat marquis sapphire with a sapphire and diamond anniversary ring as my wedding band. I was forever getting comments on how original my set was, I have now put that set along with DH wedding band aside for our son to use when he finds the girl of his dreams (should she happen to like sapphire's).

You can use any kind of ring you want . as an engagement, wedding band, or anniversary. . Not every one has to have what is considered traditional. I think a lot more of someone who uses her heart as well as her head to solve this issue.

I have a traditional engagement ring, but now five years after marriage I only wear when I'm getting dressed up. I wear my wedding band every day so I'm glad I did not have them welded together. It ended up getting in the way all the time, expecially now that I'm a mom and I'm playing with paints and play dough all the time!

My "engagement ring" was actually a wedding band. It was because he couldn't afford a diamond though, and I completely understood. One year into our marriage, he got me a ring with a heart shaped purple sapphire and two diamonds. I had it attached to the band. I'm very happy with it... I don't know anyone else who has a purple wedding ring!
