If you live in an are that has Banfield Pet Hospitals (inside of PetSmart stores) you should sign up for their Wellness Plan. It will save you a fortune in all of your vet costs. There is a one-time fee (I don't remember how much... maybe $75) and a monthly fee of $12.95 - $29.95 depending on the plan you choose. Al of the shots are covered along with several other servoces and office visits are always free. We have had great experiences with Banfield and in just three years with two pets, we have saved over $5,000 (they keep a running total of the savings on the receipts).

It all depends on the vet you take your pet to regurally, and what area you are from-Bigger cities tend to be more expensive which i have heard and witnessed. I have dogs of my own. It is expensive-there are many shots you need to get for the puppy at first, but then after that, you need to get the dog into the vet yearly, which isn't that bad at all. To keep the dog healthy and stuff i would keep the dog on heartworm and flea meds throughout the year, if needed. It all depends on the area that you live in. Getting the dog licensed is a different story though, you have to go to your downtown city hall i think and get the dog licensed and tagged, saying this dog lives in your home. It costs about 100.00 a dog, i think , but i could be wrong.

IN NC My Purebred chihuahua was $450, a little high. Next time I'm staying under $350. $100 for vet check with heartworm pills and test but they try to guilt you into everything to run the bill up.
$100-135 to be fixed and they vary GREATLY Do your research. I went 2 counties over and paid $85 but the average price in my county was $125 and even a large animal hospital charges $250 for an EEG and retarded stuff for a basic procedure. Buy the 7 in 1 and rabies somewhere like tractor supply every year so you don't have to resvist the vet.
My baby is on k9 advantix for fleas and ticks, thats $30-40 for 4 months but its the only one that has a mosquito repellant.
CKC registration with card and certificate was about $40 Dont forget to spring for $40-50 to get it chipped!

Adopt from the shelter. You'll have to pay around $60-100 for the pet, but they have current shots. The great thing about shelter pets is that they're already house broken (most), and they are much less expensive than kennel pets. It also reduces unnecessary euthanasia and over-breeding.
Also, a lot of people are in love with the idea of having a puppy, but puppies only stay puppies for a few months, and the negatives are many: chewing, barking, house-breaking, training, medical services such as spaying/neutering/shots, etc.
The upside is that pets are wonderful companions. Good luck and enjoy.

I am in ontario Canada and by the time you get there full shots it costs about $80, but then you have to get flea stuff and that costs about $75 for 5 months. I'm not sure that we have to license our dogs here????Hope not.
If we fix a female it is $200 male is $150....I think.
I guess it is always different depending on where you live.
Good Luck with your new dog!!

Dog licence can depend on the breed in certain states so thats a little more difficult to put a price on, but shots with vet visit will probably run anywhere from 150-225 dollars depending on the vet. if you are planning on spaying or nutering your dog that will probably be another 75 to 100 dollars but most of the humane societies will give you a 10 -or 20 dollor off voutcher to take to your vet and most vets honor it.

Since you did not state where you live...your best bet is to call your local vet for the shots and your dog licensing department for it's fees, in CA i pay $30. for a license and shots very in price up too $70. there are vets that give low cost vet services!!!

It varies depending on the vet you go to, area you live, etc.
Go to http://www.friendsofanimals.org for a low cost spay/neuter certificate.
Some places charge less to register a neutered or spayed dog as opposed to an intact dog.
Call around to vets in your area to check out prices...it also depends on the size/breed of dog you get.

All of the start up costs are about $200-$250, depending on your area..
all shelters charge an adoption fee, but the fee is minimal..These deserving puppies are better than free! http://search.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?offset=16&zone=2&limit=25&zip=47840&breed=&animal=Dog&size=S&tmpl=&lat=39.4228&long=-87.0714&preview=1
as they have all shots and vet checks, and many are house trained and spayed/neutered...What a bargain!!!
Just put in your own zip code to find the puppies nearest you, then click on any picture for more information.
WOW! who could resist a puppy like this? http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=6959602
Happy shopping!

Costs are going to be vastly different in various areas. Your best bet is to call a few vets in your area and find out from them. Make sure you can afford the ongoing healthcare needs of your dog before you take on the responsibility.
