I am concerned about the scar that will be left in the middle of my stomach. what is a good way to ensure the scar is not too severe?

Vitamin E cream or the capsules are great for scarring, break open the capsules and spread the liquid over the incision, please wait until after it starts to heal a bit though, talk to your doctor about this, and don't worry too much about the scar if it does not go away, they make for great conversation.
I hope your surgery goes well, I will say a prayer for you.

Pay extra and have a plastic surgeon close the wound. You won't see a scar at all. A plastic surgeon will put a hundred tiny stitches where a regular surgeon will place 5 metal staples.

If you can't afford the plastic surgeon, then let the wound heal and go to the drug store for some over the counter cream that will reduce the look of the scar.

Make sure you don't let sun on the scar for several years.

You can ensure that it won't be a big scar by taking really good care of the incision site, and making sure that it doesn't get infected.

Once it heals, you can purchase scar reducing ointment at most department stores and pharmacies (it's over the counter).

Keeping it moist will also help (once it heals- I wouldn't want to get any gunk in the fresh incision). You can use lotion with aloe vera, some thick cream like body butter, and I've also heard good things about cocoa butter.

Hope this helps!

i had an inguinal hernia repair and the scar faded to the point where you can barely see it. i did put a lot of vitamin e on it, it will be swollen and purple for a while. the scar takes time to fade. atleast a year, but don't worry, it's not that bad.

Worry more about the complications of the procedure than the visibility of the scar!!!!
