Here are 2 sites that have pictures & names of edible mushrooms, & one of them has recipes, too.

Here's one with info, pics & diagrams. It looks like a "must-read" if you want to safe. http://www.oxford.net/outdoors/Odds&Ends/mushrooms.html
Also, I've always been told that Morel mushrooms are the safest mushrooms for a beginner to easily identify. They are quite delicious dipped into a batter & deep-fried. Here is a site on Morels only: http://theforagerpress.com/fieldguide/morel.htm
Good luck & be very careful!

If you don't get sick after eating them, they are edible.
But seriously, mushrooms (looking the same) that are edible on one continent, may be poisonous on another.
Some Asians have found that out the hard way. Unless you know which mushrooms are edible where you are, stay away from them unless you are into playing Russian roulette.

My advice is, if you have to ask on YA, then stick to the ones you buy in the store. If you're really serious about learning, then you need to find a person who knows what they're doing, and have them take you around the woods and show you. Don't rely on a book, and certainly don't rely on anything you read here.
Eating the wrong mushroom can make you very, very, very sick, or even kill you. Careful!

You can't tell the difference unless you're an expert. ONLY an expert can tell the mushrooms that are delicious from the ones that will kill you dead within 24 hours. Are you actually going to place your life (or death!) in the hands of a Yahoo! answerer?
Or let somebody else try them first. If they live, eat them!

You can always determine the safe mushrooms from the poisonous ones. The safe ones are right next to the peppers in the market.

don't try and use a book to identify as both kinds look similar the best way is to find someone who has been picking them for years and go with them to learn...you don't want to eat a poisonous mushroom...some are deadly...
