I am wanting to learn for memorial services. I have been looking on ebay and i didn't know if there was a particular type or an easy instrument to learn on.

Taps can be played on the simplest, valveless bugle. All it is is tubing with a mouthpiece and a bell. Your basic Boy Scout special. It can also be played on any trumpet holding down any valve combination throughout so that you can adjust the range to fit your ability. This is made possible by the elegantly simple physics of sound.

As a long time military bugler, I second the thank you above. It means a lot to families and friends.

Not sure of the bugle, but I played the trumpet for years. You can use a trumpet with the first and third keys pressed down and it gives the same sound.

I think there's only one kind of bugle. That's a great idea because nowadays most veteran's funerals get a cd playing Taps and considering what they sacrificed for our country a boombox and a cd isn't nearly enough. So thank you for deciding to do this.

You can play it on a trumpet. I played taps at a Fourth of July service at my church one time.
