Let me start off by saying I have already called the vet and am taking my dog there. I am at work right now worrying about him and was wondering is anyone could offer advice. He sleeps with us and when we woke up we noticed he had peed in the bed. This is rare because he is fully housebroken. Plus, he slept in his pee with is usual for dogs too. Yesterday when my husband came home to check on him at lunch he had torn a small part of the carpet up. About 1 week ago (don't laugh this really happened) he had a problem with his penis. He was humping one of his toys (he is a little maltese) and got a huge erection that would not go back into the foreskin for about 20 minutes. We called the vet the next day he said not to worry since this was the first time it happened. Now in combo with the other things it seems like something is wrong with him. I am taking him to the vet but can anyone offer any advice? Anyones dog had a similar problem?

the peeing in bed would suggest a dream, either sexual or nightmare..I think your dog is having hormonal frustrations, easily remedied by neutering..

How old is your dog? Is he neutered?

The only part of your question I am going to answer is the part about the erection.

Most male dogs get an erection when they are excited. When he rolls onto his back, it kinda looks like a set of "balls" in the sheath. When dogs breed, that part of the penis swells inside the female causing the pair to get "stuck". Some dogs "carry" the erection for 10 min, others 30 min. When breeding my male dogs for the first time, I timed the "getting stuck" to see how long that individual dog took to "get the deed done", that way I could tell the females owners how long a normal breeding will take. Fertilization only happens when the dogs get stuck. Don't worry about the erection. If you (not neutered) breed him, expect him to be stuck for about 20 min.

i'm curious how old is the dog???
he may be having hormone issues. this could be responsible for the chewing up carpet and the humping. my friend's dog humps and his penis will stay out for a long time too....it's kinda funny, but normal.
as for the wetting in the bed.....that one i don't know about.
perhaps it was a dream that caused it?? doggies do dream, but i don't know if that could be a cause for wetting the bed and continuing to lie in it....unless he just didn't realize he wet his sleep area.

i would try to stop worrying and just listen to the vet.

is he fixed??? if it is hormones, then getting him fixed may help with all or most of these "new" problems.

take care!

P.S. some people feel that fixing a dog is cruel, however, it can cause serious issues for the dog once they start to get older. usually 2-3+ years. we had a dog that basically went crazy and we were told it was b/c he was never fixed. my parents opted to have him put to sleep and then learned that if they had gotten him fixed it may have reversed all the problems.
very sad.

Finally someone else had a probelm with their dog and their erection (believe me my family got a huge kick out of that and I got upset because it was serious). My chihuahua got an erection last November while having too much fun with his stuffed Lab. I took him to the vet because it kept swelling and wouldn't go back in. But this is actually a problem. My dog also would just pee while he was lying down watching TV with us, we got him fixed though (mainly because of the erection problem) and the peeing problem just went away when he got fixed as well.

No, all my dogs are female :)

I'm sorry your dog is sick. It's unusual for them to lay in their pee unless something is wrong. Maybe he has a urinary tract infection?
That would cause him to feel ill, and pee more than often. Diabetes also comes to mind, if he is drinking a lot more water than usual, and peeing a whole bunch. He also might have just been really tired, and didn't get up to go to the bathroom, but that really doesn't happen all that often, especially continuing to sleep in the pee.
I wish I had something more to say. Hope everything works out for you and your doggie.

He is experiencing a bladder problem, infection, most likely.

The humping is normal. Ours hump stuffed animals...it's gross, and you can discourage it by removal of the animal and submersing the dog in cold water if the erection does not go down.

Most likely he did not realize that his bladder had let loose.

Good luck

I am sorry to say that I cannot help you. I truly do feel for you though. I am sorry to hear about your dog. Hopefully everything will be okay. You are being a good Mommy buy taking him to the vet. Well I hope everything goes well and take care.

Sounds like he needs neutered badly! Maybe some type of problem concerning hormones..or a urinary tract infection..Hopefully your vet will solve it for you!

How old? How long have you had him?

Incontinence can happen at any age but for him to still lay there is odd.
