There is no one specific "diet plan" that is better than another. You should however, avoid all the fad diets like ultra low carb, sticking to one type of food, liquid diets, starvation diets, super low calorie diets.

Instead of dieting why not just make better food choices? Yes, I know it's hard to eat a salad instead of a hot fudge sundae but you really don't have to give any of your favorite food up.

Just eat smaller portions of the junk food and larger portions of healthier foods. For example: let's say you have you mind set on having a huge piece of chocolate cake with ice cream. Before you allow yourself to eat the cake, you must eat something that is good for you. If you pick an item such as a piece of fruit or small salad you will find that when it's time to have your cake you will only want a very small piece (this really does work).

Then right after you eat the cake see if it still gives you pleasure. You will find that after 2 minutes of finishing any food item, the pleasure diminishes. Remember that feeling. Then the next time you will say to yourself do I want to get 5 minutes of happiness from eating a high calorie treat or do I want to look in the mirror and look better. You see the extra calories from junk food will last longer on your body than it will in your mind. Then ask yourself, if the junk food is really worth it.

After a week or two of really looking at what you eat and seeing how long you enjoy it, you will start to naturally make better food choices. Sure everyone wants that quick sugar fix bit once you weight that against the way your body looks, you'll see that a 5 minutes fix isn't worth it.

You will then notice that you are eating more vegetables, fruits, salads and drinking much more water. And basically that is what a good diet is all about. Healthier less processed foods will help you look your best.

Try the following : do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. The 45 minute thing is not true, but don't over 60 minutes at a time.

Do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read fitness magazines, like Shape and Fitness for motivation and tips.

Good luck and stick at it.

the thing that works for me is writing down EVERYTHING i ate. Plus adding the calories, fat, and carb grams. By actually seeing what i'm putting in really puts it in prespective.
