I have been an atheist for 30 years. I do not go out looking for debates or arguments against religious people. I dont wear a sign around my neck that says I DONT BELIEVE IN GOD! I dont make it a point to tell everyone I meet what I believe or dont believe. I really only divulge my beliefs when someone asks me what they are. (and here is where your question comes in) When I do tell religious people that I am an atheist it is like I am the lowest form of life on Earth. These people talk to me in ways that just amaze me. They tell me I am wrong, that I will go to hell for not believing. I am treated as an outcast. These are usually Christian people, who are supposed to be forgiving, and full of kindness and love for their fellow man and yet they treat me like dirt because I dont believe what they believe. I dont bad mouth their religion. I dont "blaspheme" their god. I just tell them I dont believe and I get s*** upon. So, the atheist you say "make fun of Chrisianity" are probably defending themselves by attacking the people who attacked them first. Try it. Tell a Christian you dont believe. See what kind of reaction you get. You will understand why atheists have to use what we can to defend our opinions.

The other part of your question " if atheists have morals" is truly a stupid question but I will answer it anyway. I know many christians that have a lot less morals than I do.

14 years of marriage and my 8 year old twins. Yes, I was married for 6 years before I had children. Wait! Wait! That cant be true, I have no morals.
I go to work everyday and come home every evening. I help my kids with their homework. I eat dinner, sometimes with my family, and sometimes not. We all sleep at night, just fine. Just like you.
Sounds like an ordinary life to me. Not immoral. I live like most people in the world. No matter what they believe or don't believe. I live my life , just like you, one day at a time.

Morality is a matter of how YOU view it. It is a matter of opinion. Not anyone Else's opinion but your own. You may do something that others think is immoral, but there are others who see what you did as moral. Because someone says something you did is immoral, doesn't make it true. Your morals are your own. It is up to you to decide what is morally correct, not society.

I think I understand your question, so I'll try and answer.

Yes, Atheists have morals.
No, not all Atheists make fun of others.
I'm not sure, If an atheists does not believe in a certain religion, lets say as a Christian does, then how can they be blashemous.

To be truthful, there are very few religions who have individuals who feel the need to criticize another for their beliefs. So, to lump ALL the individuals of a certain type of religion as that of being represented by the few, is in correct to do.

To criticize anothers belief is to profess your own ignorance to your own belief.

SOME Christians, SOME Athiests, SOME of any religion you can think of, but not ALL.

We all have morals. Having morals has nothing to do with religion, unless you consider religion as being a member of the humanrace.

We should all treat others as we would like to be treated. That's not religion, that's common sense.

In terms of blasphemy, I would say probably no, due to the reason stated above (that to deny the existence of God, to a Christian, is blasphemy, and therefore it would be impossible for an athiest to NOT be a blasphemer).

In terms of morals--there are of course moral athiests. There seems to be this perception that athiests are all crazed killers, running around naked, raping children, sacrificing animals, having orgies, etc. Certainly there are SOME athiests who do these things (just as there are some religious people, and agnostics, who do), but these things do not DEFINE atheism.

I am an athiest, and atheists who make fun of Christians piss me off just as much as they do you. For one, it makes me look bad. Would it surprise you to know that I don't badmouth religion? That when I am a guest in a Christian household, I will pray at meals and go to church with them, without complaint? That I love my family? That I work an 8-5 desk job? That I have financial worries and relationship insecurities just like everyone else? That I would never, ever counsel a friend to get an abortion? That I try to treat everyone with respect? That I will bring chicken soup to a coworker if they are sick?

Just because atheists do not get their moral code from religion does NOT mean that they have no moral code at all. In fact, in most of the basics (murder, adultery, envy, etc.) the two codes are exactly the same.

There are good and crappy athiests out there just as there are good and crappy Christians. Please don't try to define the crappy ones by their choice of faith, and I will do you the same favor.

Since blasphemy is generally defined as defamation of the name of god, I don't think it's possible to be an atheist and not be consider a blasphemer by someone sometime. Many people believe that to not hold the same faith in their religion is blasphemy, so obviously stating you don't believe in any religion would be a blasphemy against all religions.

That being said, most atheists I know are pretty moral, upstanding people. They just don't hang around in religious chat rooms or boards defending their lack of faith... people who do that tend to be of other religions converting, or agnostic and really seeking some spiritual path.

That's interesting, because I find that most Christians are interested in mocking athiests, insisting that athiests cannot be moral and that morality somehow has something to do with getting up early on Sunday, and are just here to make fun of Christians. I find it funny that I do mind my own business and have to hear crap like, "You're going to hell" and "Repent." I mind my business. When will Christians realize that other people's souls, while valuable to their God, are really none of their concern?

And if a person doesn't believe in God, it isn't blasphemy. It may be blasphemy to you, but in a world where God doesn't exist, blasphemy can't exist either.

Yeah well the same thing could be said about Christians making fun of athiesm rather than minding their own business.

I'm agnostic. I don't blaspheme against Jesus... just against people who think they're "Christian" then support war, don't support the poor, or turn a blind eye.

{edit}

Ok neutral answer.

I'm not athiest but I am agnostic and although I don't firmly believe in a specific God or any pre-set belief set... I do have morals I abide by. Not so that I get into a heaven.... But so that I can live with myself from day to day.

Interestingly, Christians make up about 75% of the US population and 75% of the US prison population. Atheists make up about 10% of the US population... but they only make up 0.2% of the US prison population. That means that an atheist is 50 TIMES LESS likely to be incarcerated than a Christian. I can think of two possibilities that might reasonably account for this disparity:

1. Atheists of a higher ethical and moral caliber than Christians, and thus do not do the same kinds of nasty things that land so many Christians in jail; or,

2. Atheists are, overall, a lot smarter than Christians, and thus less likely to get caught in the course of their transgressions.

Take your pick. (Personally, I think its a little bit of both.)

I'm an Agnostic, I have very strong morals, and I'd like to think I am sensible. As for blasphemy, you'd have to define it. Is my "Music is My Religion" shirt blasphemy? Is supporting gay rights blasphemy? Is thinking that religion of all kinds should be kept out of public schools blasphemy? Then call me blasphemous.

I only get up on my hind legs when the bible-bangers get in my face! Other than that I always mind my own business, for I know that Atheism can only come with a superior level of intellect and screaming my beliefs at a christian won't make them any smarter!

You obviously have your set of references; I have mine. Most of my friends are Atheists and we have morals, we're sensible (I believe), and as for blasphemy... well, what's the point? I do swear sometimes, but it seems unsophisticated to me.

I think the REAL problem is that this forum is filled with thirteen year-olds who like to annoy people. Don't judge adult Atheists based on what kids do. There are plenty of immature Christians here, too.
