I bought a Silver Dapple Dachshund and she is 8 weeks old now. Everytime I take her outside to use the bathroom, she goes. But I am always finding poop in the only two rooms that have carpet, my bedroom and my daughters. I have tried everything to keep her from doing so but it still happens. I got the cleaner that removes the scent, showing her the mess and telling her no and then placing her outside, etc...... So now I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else and what can be done???? Im going insane cleaning poop all the time, I love her to death but cleaning poop is getting old because it seems everytime I move I find more and now I hate to even more without looking..... PLEASE HELP!

I am a cat & dog lover. Never had this problem with any cat or dog. Cats & dogs don't really like loud sounds. (Never hit your pet). You can roll up a newspaper and slam it against your hand with the pet right next to you. And be sure to say "no", very loud with the poop still there. Make sure the dog see's the poop even if you must come close to putting her/his nose right into the poop.

Everytime your dog goes outside reward the dog with a doggie treat, also pet the dog and say you are a good dog.

Ofcourse the dog pooping on the carpet is water under the bridge. Now it is important to break the dog of this habit.

My experience pets will never mess up in the house unless they happen to be sick. (If you rewarded them when you first took the dog out to learn).

Good luck with the above suggestion.

From a clinical psychiatrist from France.

I have three daschunds. They are loving , loyal dogs but they are know for being one of the hardest breeds to house train. Did you look into that before you got your puppy????? I do not mean to preach, but there are so many abandoned and abused dachshunds and it is believed to be because they are often not what the owner barganed for. The bark constantly. That is the number one reason given at the local animal shelter for "owner released dachshunds".
I really don't have any great trick for you to try. There is no answer, if there is I REALLY wish someone woulld tell me as well. My female is very good about only going to the potty outside, but it is not for the hours of training and aggravation. She is 4 and when she was about 2 she just started standing by the door when she wanted to go. My male is a completely diffferent story. I walk all three, as soon as we wake up. I can take them for a 45 minute walk and the male will poop as soon as we get home.

I don't have carpet anymore. One reason is the dogs, another b/c my kids were always spilling things, another reason b/c i just really prefer hard wood and ceramic tile floor. If this is an option for you I highly recommend it. I would suggest getting laminated wood over "real wood" I made the mistake of real wood and when water sits on it it eventually buckles and stains. Pergo , or they now make some very inexpesinve laminate woods. they are so easy to clean and they really add to your home's decor.

Absent removing the carpet, My other suggestion is to keep your dog confined to one room when you are away, try not to be away for more thn 2 hours at a time. You said that you only have two rooms with carpet, can you gate thse two rooms off so that she does not have access to them???? Yiu can buy some pee pads at your pet store and keep them in the areas where she tends to go.

Daschunds so not like to be alone, they are usually partial to one family member and really want the company of humans. If you just put her outside it is unlikely she will ever learn to use the outside as her potty place. The more time you can spend outdoors with her the more likely she will learn to prefer to poop outside.

8 weeks is very young. She is far too young to potty train completely. I know it sounds harsh, but many people swear by kennel training small puppies. I know this is easier said than done, b/c my daschunds love to sleop with either my daughter or me. My female recently had puppies and we kept one, now 16 weeks. She is extremely attached to my little girl, sleeps with her, cries when she leaves for school, etc. She is already recognizing the pee pads that I have placed right by the all the doors and right next to my little girls bed. 90% of the time she goes directly on the pee pad, which makes for easy clean up.

It will get better as she gets older, but I don't think you can ever expect a daschund to be fully potty trained, unless someone is always home and she has constant access to the outdoors. It can be done I suppose with a whole lot aof time and patience.
I have found that the best approach is rewarding them whenever they potty outside. I carry trest with me when we walk or even when we jsut play in the back yard.

P.S. It does not do any good to show a dog their mess AFTER they have made it, they do not understand why you are doing it, they have no idea why you are scolding them. If you happen to catch her "IN THE ACT" pick her her up, yep, right in the middle. take her outside to finish, if she finishes outside, then praise, praise, praise, reward, reward. positive reinforcement works best for dogs

either close the doors to the rooms or put up a baby gate,
this will keep her from going to the bathroom in the rooms.

you need to shower her with praise (lay it on thick) when she craps outside. Dogs respond better to positive than negative. Once she realizes how awesome she apparently is for going outside, she will always want to.

Rub her little nose in it....if you can catch her. Must be a "little dog" thing...our Jack Russells did the same thing....keep the rooms gated off maybe. Good luck:)

i would start off by keeping those doors closed at all times that would eliminate the problem all together
