Before going through a car wash, do you take the aerial off and leave the hole for water to penetrate the wires etc or leave it on and risk damage.

I always unscrew mine. If it is a decent one there are no exposed wires inside, just the thread of the screw.

I unscrew the aerial mast. The base of the aerial is still fixed to the roof, and is designed to be car-wash proof. The mast is designed to be removable for this very purpose.

it should screw off, just take it off. it doesn't damage the base
