When I set my hands about 4 inches in front of the ball, I hit my driver straighter but get les distance. Help me understand how I can get more distance while keeping it straight.

setting your hands forward forces you to come more from the inside creating an inside out swing or at least less of an outside in swing. It also may be delofting the club head or closing the face. While these all lead to less fade and / or slice they reduce power, put pressure on you timing and can lead to less consistency. Get those hand back to square and even with the ball and work on your swing it must be inside out and the body and arms must release to square the club face. Some time two wrongs can appear to make a right but don't be fooled it won't last.

When you set up it's good or you should keep you hands in front of the ball. That is why they make offset clubs, they do that for you. Since you have your hands a little to far past the ball your effecting the loft off your driver. Which will result it less distance.

If youre losing it to the right, just close the clubface a little, (called toeing it in) and take your regular swing. Make sure to include shoulder turn, and youll hit it farther.
