He is 28 and wealthy but he lives in Alaska so am not around him much. I have met the girl and she is a single mom of 2 little girls but seems very materialistic. I think he should get a prenup to protect himself but I can't suggest it because he would be angry. Do I just let him possibly make a mistake and just hope for the best?

does he have a friend who could bring this up with him? Would be better than coming from his mother. Good luck and just pray that he does the right thing and that this girl is really not what you think she is

I been with a gold digger before, basically "hope for the best" does not help. If the girl is very materialistic and makes your son buy many expensive things, you need to remind you son that that how much money he has spend on her materialistically. If you mention that and also prenup he might get angry. But realize truth does hurt. Either way your the father. I suggest the best way is talk to your son. Make sure to mention "I am your father and i just care about you.... i know u love your girl but i am just worried about her. so on...etc" at the end he might say " ok ok" or "dont worry about it" but he will be thinking in his head.

I fee your pain. People sometimes behave irrationally when they are in love. All you can do is your best. Tell your son that you love him and want the best for him and then tell him that you insist that he get a prenup to protect himself for your own peace of mind, if not for his own protection. If at all possible, ask him to delay the marriage to give him time to think it over.

I really think you should at least warn him. Tell him the truth like this, "Son, I really like (girls name) and I understand that you love her, but how do you feel about a prenup? I am not accusing, I am only suggesting because I know how some married couples are nowadays and I just feel that you should protect yourself!"

If your son loves her enough to marry her then nothing you can say to him will change his mind anyway - so what you would really be doing is upsetting him for no reason. What you see in her and what he sees are two totally different things - so even though your thoughts may be correct, in the end you will just have to bite your tongue and let him figure it out by himself. Otherwise you risk your son pushing you away and taking up even more with her.

Wellll.................to be honest you may very well be right.... BUT if you tell him... he may get angry and no longer want you in his life because of the tension... Since i am sure this is the VERY last thing you want - you are going to have to refrain from saying anything and remember you raised him to the very best of your ability and instilled the values he needs as an adult, and leave the rest up to him and hope for the best.

If you are very close to him, maybe you could think of another way to mention it, such as a horrible story you heard or something and vaguely put the idea into his head....

I wish you the very best =)

stand by him and let him live his life. If he needs you I'm sure he would not hesitate to call. It's like you said, " . . . she SEEMS to be materialistic . . . am not around him much . . ."

You have to believe you raised a smart man, he will do what right for him.

P.s. if you butt in, he may resent you for it and you not being around him much may turn to not at all. No one likes a mom that won't shut up and let their GROWN children live their life. You had your chance to be young and to live and make your own mistakes, let him do the same on his own terms.

Golddigger or not...he needs to protect his assets. Encourage him to get a prenup to protect himself...just in case things go sour.

It's kind of like life insurance. You hope you never have to use it but you will thank yourself for being proactive...just..in...case...Good luck!

He is 28 years old and an adult. You've got to cut the cord mom. I know it is hard. You have to let him learn from his mistakes. Pray his eyes are opened to her ways, maybe one day he will see it for himself. Maybe those things you don't like about her are the things he does.

I agree. A prenup would ne the wisest thing to do. If she is really with him because she loves him, then a prenup shouldn't bother her.
