If I ate an egg that was fertilized, what would happen?

How would I know that the egg is fertilized?

BTW, these are hen's eggs that I'm asking about!

Won't hurt you. Usually, there would be a spot of blood in the egg if it was fertilized. If it is developing (actually a delicacy in the Phillipines) Baloot is a half-hatched chicken egg. A baluge is a fifteen- or sixteen-day fertilized chicken egg. Open an egg and pop a sixteen-day-old incomplete chicken fetus into your mouth, complete with partially formed feathers, feet, eyeballs, and blood vessels showing through the translucent skin of the chick.

Personally, you couldn't pay me enough to do that....

Glad to know they are hen's eggs...cause it would be pretty amazing if you got a rooster egg.

Nothing will happen. I get fresh eggs from a friend (brown eggs) she raises chickens and sells the eggs. There is no difference and you can't tell. The whites are produced whether there is a rooster around or not. When you butcher a young hen (before she is laying) you can see a mass of unformed eggs. When a hen is born it has a mass of undeveloped eggs in it. As the chicken gets old enough the eggs develope and the chicken lays them one a day until it goes into a molting season where it stops laying for awhile. The white part is just a protective body fluid to protect the yolk (chick) if the eggs is fertilized. It is much like a human female when they build up a sac of fluid around the fetus to protect it as it is growing.

having raised chickens, it takes three days of incubation to have anything form as a chick inside an egg, 21 total days to hatch.
all of our eggs were fertilized and as long as you collect them everyday and chilled them, it kills the embryo and nothing will grow. sometimes there is a small red dot on teh yolk even if it isn't fertilized. Commercial eggs are not fertilized because the hen houses are just that, HEN houses. not rooster.

Fertilized eggs are supposed to be more natural and healthier and you grow chickies inside of your stomach, of course! (NOT!)

You'd know it was fertilized because it said so on the label, not because there was a half-formed chicken embryo inside. (Yuk!)
The other people do not know what they're talking about: The spot of blood has NOTHING to do with fertilization - it's just a blood spot. Those eggs are taken away usually.

The white part is not rooster jism, it is called the 'chalazae'; it's function is to keep the yolk anchored in the middle of the egg, that's all.

Oh, you're asking about hen's eggs? I thought you were asking about rooster eggs!

If you were looking at the cracked open egg in a bowl you would see a blood spot in it where the embryo is starting to grow. If you didn't look and ate the egg no problem would occur.

That is why egg companies hold eggs up to a light (candling) to see if there is a dark blood spot in them.

u won't know until u feel the feathers tickling ur throat. seriously, if u buy them from the store u don't have anything to worry about. if u live out on a farm w/ chickens then hold them up to the light; if u see a red spot in them then they're fertilized so don't eat them. if u eat one accidentally, nothing will happen so don't worry about it.
