I found an Amsale dress that is gorgeous and just what I have looked for except the price is rediculous anyone who knows about wedding dresses knows Amsale and Kenneth Cole dresses can be very expensive. How much did you pay for your dress? Was it a formal wedding (as mine will be)? How much is too much for a dress? Our budges is pretty high around 40,000

I know it is kinda high but we desreve it. We are from New Orleans so we have to have a New Orleans band to play our Second line (parade) music plus a choir for the ceremony that is really the cause of the budget being so high.

Do not pay more than $ 5000 for your dress. The price of your dress is not going to guarantee you a good marriage or a perfect wedding. You can find gorgeuous dresses for $1000 dollars in good name brands.

You are only going to wear this ONCE and selling it or discarding it are not options.... you can be elegant and beutiful with a $ 800 dress from David's Bridal, the price or the dress will not matter, what matters is that it fits and that makes you feel like a queen on your special day.

If you have that budget evryone is going to try to sell you all sorta stuff. You would get carried on by thinking that spending a lot of money and getting the best of the best is going to reflect the quality of your relationship. That's why wedding venues, caterer's, videographers, etc. pry on people like you to get them to spend a lot of money and get stressed with all sorta of details and packages and options....

You deserve it, I'm sure, I'm happy for you that you have plenty of money available to make your day special. I just wanted to tell you that not the most expensive stuff is the best. Don't let people try to sell you stuff that you don't need. Even if you have a big budget for your wedding it doesn't hurt to be conservative in spending or you will be spending 100 k without even knowing it.

Congratulations and best of luck to you.

I bought my dress on eBay for less than $200.00. It was suitable for the most formal of church weddings. There was no way I was going to spend a fortune on some designer dress just for the dubious privilege of having a fancy name on the label. I would rather get a beautiful dress for a fraction of the cost and spend the money on something else like better food, or an extra few days on the honeymoon. If you can afford 40k on your wedding, and that is what YOU want, then go for it! This is a day you want to look back on with pleasure, not regret for either under (or over) spending.

$40,000 for a wedding? Wow, you are really doing it up. Don't be so caught up on spending a lot of money on the wedding for it's only for a few hours (not an entire day). Enjoy your wedding but most importantly, enjoy and focus on your marriage because once the balloons, decor, guests, bridal party etc.and all the happiness that comes with the wedding is gone, you have each other and that is most important.
But to answer your question, I wouldn't spend too much on a gown because you will have it on for a few hours. The most I will spend on a gown between $100.00-$600.00. There are very beautiful gowns out there in this price range. Please don't be hooked on the name of the gown because that's exactly what you would be paying for, the name. I paid $500.00 (from David's) for my gown and it was beautiful and my wedding was formal.

Really that's up to you. If you want to get a good price on wedding dresses here are a few places to go.
1.Any bridal shop clearance rack
2. Bridal dress outlet store-check out JC Penny's
3. if you have a Davids bridal that's a good place
4. Bridal Shows. every vendor at a bridal show will give you coupons for so much off a dress or they will have a room set up with the items that are going to be discontinued or out of style.

I happened to find my dream dress on a clearance rack at a bridal shop. It had gone from $2,000 to $250. And it was a formal gown.

You don't have to spend a fortune on your dress as long as you like it. I happened to buy mine on sale. The store was in the midst of changing the seasonal styles and putting the past seasons on sale. I knew pretty much what season I was going to have my wedding in so I picked from that section of the sales area. The one I found turned out to be the last one and it had been a floor model so it was a little beat up. It fit perfectly and totally reflected my personality and style. I paid $500 for it and two months prior it had been selling at $2500. Some minor "reconstruction" work i.e. missing pearls and a good cleaning and it was good as new. I have a tight budget of $10K for my wedding.

My best friend is having a wedding with about a 25K budget.

She is only spent about $450 on the dress (plus alterations). She happened to find a beautiful dress at a reasonable price.

You don't need to spend a fortune on a dress for it to look good. It really depends on how the style looks on you.

I think you should try to keep it under a grand.

Talk to the bridal salon. You can have the dress of your dreams made in a bit cheaper fabric; like satin instead of silk. I've never heard anyone at a wedding say, "Gee the wedding was great but did you feel the bridal gown fabric?!" Shhh, this is a secret the salons don't tell you.

40k is a lot to spend on a wedding...better to not spend all of it and use some for a down payment on a house or to pay ff your existing mortgage. No one will remember if you had a $15,000 or $40,000 wedding- so be wise with your money.

My dress was absolutely gorgeous (got lots of compliments) and I bought it for under $200 at one of those discount bridal stores. Took it to the dry cleaners on my own ($50) and had it altered by my own seamstress ($50). We had 150 guests for lunch (cheaper too- everyone appreciated having a full night to themselves) and spent about $5k on food. The most expensive thing was our photographer and videographer- those are the things that last forever. Well- our honeymoon was about the same- went to Europe.

well- probably more than you wanted.
Happy wedding!

What a waste of money!

Elope - take the cash and put a down payment on your house!

It's a one-day event...Yes, it's important, but the marriage is the real issue, not the wedding.

My daughter's dress is priced at $299. Her wedding will be an ultra-formal evening event.

It's not how much it costs, it how much you like it, and is the cost really worth a day in a dress. You're never going to wear it again. Mine sits in an airtight box for 20 years now. Why? I don't open it or put it on, my daughter will never wear it. Spending tons of money is crazy. See if you can rent the dress of your dreams.
