Try La Joya Chardonnay. It is fab with a meaty fish.
It is South American...Chilean I believe, so if your wine store sorts by country you wont need to look so hard.
It is very affordable at about $13-$20 a bottle.
Cheers.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I was taught that white wine goes with chicken and fish and red wine goes with pork and beef. However, salmon is kind of tricky. My personal opinion is that white wine would go better with salmon because red wine is a lot stronger than white in terms of taste, so it would tend to overpower the fish. A good Napa Valley or Santa Barbara County Chardonnay would be good. My personal favorite is American Reserve Chardonnay from the Fess Parker Winery (remember him? Davy Crockett from the days of the Wonderful World of Disney)

Salmon is a special case among seafood -- it actually goes better with red than white wine in most preparations, especially grilled. I'll second the folks that are saying Pinot Noir; however, good Pinot Noir is notoriously difficult to find. My recommendation would be a good Beaujolais from a reputable wine shop that can advise you on your purchase. Failing that, even a wine from a mass-market importer like Georges Dubouef would be okay; you can find that one in supermarkets, even.

Well my first answer is a good champagne or sparkler.
Second would be a pinot gris or grigio. The fume blanc is nice and crisp too. I hate chardonnay because it's gotten too buttery and oaky after the last ten years.

Although a light red like zin or merlot can accompany a meatier fish like salmon.

A soft red wine...you don't have to go pricey to get a good decent wine. Ask your liquor clerk what the recommended selection is. Don't go with a real dry wine.....If you want you can even look on line at some of the wine lists. You can get a good idea of what is out there and the price ranges before you go shopping...Good luck!

Salmon being a 'strong' fish I'll go big chardonnay or a nice dry rose or a sligthly chilled pinot noir... Enjoy!!

Chardonnay is a little sweet and oaky for salmon. A good Fume Blanc or Savignon Blanc is what I'd recommend.

You're welcome!

Bon appetite!

New Zealand's Auckland Canton Pinot Grigio. Don't go with a red with seafood when you can have a chilled white.
