Yesterday one of my mates from college told me that she has never had a boyfriend and she has never been kissed. She is 22. She is fine around boys until one of them shows that he is interested in her that she just gets scared and becomes "offstandish" with them. What am I supposed to say to her??? All suggestions welcome.

Oh this is too funny because I am, in fact, 22 and never been kissed or had a boyfriend. I am a little bit freakish around guys too, only because I am inexperienced. But I am okay with being 22 and un-kissed. It doesn't bug me (well, okay it does sometimes, but not often). I know the right guy will come along and if he doesn't, that's okay too.
Anyway, here's the thing. Lots of people tell me all the time that I need a boyfriend and that doesn't exactly endear them to me. Lots of people tell me all the time that I need to be more outgoing and hang around with guys more or I'll be single forever, but you know what? It's my life. And the same thing is true of your friend. It's her life and you don't have to tell her anything, especially not that she needs to be different around men.
If you have a concern for her, maybe you could ask her why she feels uncomfortable around guys, but don't do this with the intention of trying to break her out of her shell. that isn't going to help the friendship. It just makes me mad when people tell me to be something I'm not.
So your friend hasn't been kissed, it's okay, it isn't the end of the world. The important thing isn't getting her a boyfriend, it's supporting her. Let her be who she is, give her your friendship unconditionally, not with the intention of changing her.

I dont know the girl and just with what you tell me, she may have been abused by someone in her life, or told scarey stories about stuff when it comes to guys. Who knows...
If she is scared only in her own time with someone she isnt scared of will she get better.

Tell her not to worry...One day she will meet a really terrific guy and all her inhibitions will disappear.

Ask her if she is gay. Not in an offensive way, of course, just ask. It won't hurt to just ask.
