Seems like it should be "buff naked" - if naked has to be described!

All three of those are acceptable colloquialisms for being naked. There is also "stark naked."

I've always heard buck naked all my life. I looked in several places and got different answers. One was saying it originated from American Indians being called bucks. Another talked about buckskin. One said it was called butt naked but was changed so it could be used in polite society. So, I guess you can use either one. I'll just stick with buck naked. I hope this helps.

Well, both. And your suggestion too. Male deer don't wear clothes and if you can see someone's butt, then you know they're at least half-naked. I also agree with you, naked doesn't need to be described, it just needs to be ignored. We don't want to hear about those other people in their nakedness when we have our own problems to worry about!
