Can you answer this question using only biblical scripture?
For example:
Baptism is for........(bk., chap., text from the verse)
or
Baptism is........(bk., chap., text from the verse)
There are several different references to baptisms in the New Testament. However, I'm looking for references to "water baptism"
I'm interested to see what the bible says about "water baptism". I hope you help me with this excercise, and I hope it helps you. I know some people won't want to do this. And that's OK. I understand. Thanks in advance to those that answer for me.

I'm referring to the baptism that one desiring to be a christian should recieve. That is not Jesus' baptism, not John's baptism, etc.
Here's an example:
BAPTISM IS FOR....I Peter 3:21 .....now saves us....

Matt,
I can't see IN THE BIBLE "baptism is JUST a symbol of being reborn. " I can't seem to get that interpretation, and I for sure don't see that text anywhere in the bible.
Thanks
Robert K,
'Baptism.......an outward symbol for an inner conviction" .......Straight from the Baptist Creed Book. I'm looking for BIBLE text.
Furthermore, Romans 6:3-5 COMPARES Christ's burial and resurrection to the throne, having dominion over all life everlasting TO our being buried in baptism, and coming up out from that point and walking with a new life as a new person with the hope of life everlasting . That is, as he was buried and rose again, likewise, we are buried, and can rise again, and so because of this; we should walk with a newness of life. (Just like He did THAT, we do THIS)
Baptism is not a JUST a symbol, and the life that Christ promises us is not JUST a symbol. Neither should the way you walk (your manner of life be a symbol.
Thanks.

Terri,
I know....., and there are MANY more interpretations than this, as I'm sure you know. But, One thing is for sure. We may interpret something many different ways, But the conveyor of something INTENDS for it ONE way. That's what I'm searching for. I may come to the wrong conclusion. But I must first know this. Paticularly when I'm searching for the wisdom of God.
There is a such thing as a right answer. Some of us have just come to or have been led to wrong conclusions. If that's not the case then, there is no God, or at best, he would be confusing and unclear concerning His wills. But, I think it's safe to say that the problem is man, not God.
Thanks
Lot's of people referenced the baptism of Jesus and/or the baptism of John............THESE ARE NOT THE BAPTISMS THAT WE ARE TO RECEIVE.
Thanks.

John's Baptism was for repentance. It was for those who were of the time of those urshering in the coming of the Mesiah, who heard this message from John.
Jesus on the other hand, His baptism was TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTIOUSNESS (Mat 3:13-15).
Thanks

Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and ye shall recieve the gift of the HOly Ghost". So water baptism is for the remission and washing away of sins.

John the Baptist was Jesus' cousin and born before him, he was the one sent to prepare the way for Jesus. He baptised Jesus, (Mark 1, verse9)
And it came about in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
Verse 10: And imediately coming up out of the water, He saw the heavans opening, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon Him;
Verse 11: and a voice came out of the heavens: "Thou art My beloved Son, in Thee I am well-pleased."
Jesus was 33 when he was baptised, why the catholic religion makes their followers baptise their children in the first few months of life is beyond me, because what choice is left in that, you are taught the catholic way, catholic rules you loose the whole meaning of what it is to be a true christian because I was thought as I was baptised into this religion, that catholism is the only true religion which I doubt as this makes it self righteous, and judgmental.

Baptism is about YOU willfully accepting the Holy Spirt through water.
Why this is I don't know. John the Baptist didn't really leave a document detailing his reasons.

Baptism is a outward symbol of a inner conviction
It is symbolic of dying in christ and being ressurected in the newness of life, best described in Romans 6:3-5 (King James Version)
3Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
4Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
but also in...
Matthew 21:24-26 (King James Version)
24And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?
26But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.
Acts 19:2-4 (King James Version)
2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Colossians 2:11-13 (King James Version)
11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
