God (Psalms 83:18) did not do hideous things. If bad things happened to people, it was because they were willfully wicked and many worshipped false Gods and did hideous things to other people. Some nations sacrificed their children to Molech, their fire god and were burned alive. God destoyed them for it.:
Jeremiah 32:35--"And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin."
Concerning Jesus, he willingly offered to give his life for all mankind so that eventually we will be free from sin and death. He had to show loyalty and remain faithful until death and this he accomplished.

If you will notice, all the things were done as a result of Mankind screwing things up. So God does not do the hideous things, Mankind does the hideous things in the Bible.
To blaim God for all or any of the wrong doings in the world, would be to pass the buck and not own up to our own actions.
To comment on you example regarding having his own son tortured and brutally murdered.
Jesus wastortured and crucified by the Roman soldiers after being condemned by MAN, not by God.

It's just amazing that instead of answering a question which really ought to be answered by Christians. Instead they say "get saved' or ask god because i don't know. And then they wonder in astonishment why people have problems with the company that is Christianity inc.
But more than that it's sad for those people that they can't or won't question these things. After all no-one wants to burn in hell for asking a question when you can simply just believe.
I feel sorry that Christianity has brainwashed so many people into saying and doing things under someone Else's control.
and being taught not to study and question.

Let's get one thing straight. Torture and murder are initiated by Satan, who wants people to be miserable like he is, and he uses sin and murder to try to mess up the normal progression of life and learning that God instituted for all of us. We all have free agency, including Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus Christ voluntarily made the ultimate sacrifice of life and body along with taking upon Himself the sins and pain of this world and of all creation included in the Atonement. It was Jesus Christ' love for the world that He agreed to be the first to pass through the process of resurrection so that He could set the plan of immortality and eternal life for God's children in motion. Have a happy day.
I wanted to add that what seems cruel to us in seeing the Israelites commanded to wipe out specific peoples could be seen as an act of mercy. If you start studying the existence of fertility cults in heathen nations, you will see how even the youngest children were usually dragged into and involved in some really perverted practices. Remember back then there were no therapists to help undo the damage, and children who have grown up with adult perversion around them often have a desire to keep engaging in similar practices, which is why we have such strict laws against such abuse today.

Like man doesn't do hideous things like rape women, flog Jesus, make war and enslave people like Blacks to do work
Let's compare man's hideous nature against God's on a point by point basis.

Bible is not a word of God anymore, it has been modified numerous times and re-written again and again with new stories. Read Quran instead and understand the real techings of God.
