NOT speading Democracy by gun point, giving people the chance to choose for themselves. That is way so many Iraqis choose to vote.

It also says that if a man won't convert, to slay him. My copy is well thumbed.

Terrorists are not true Muslims, just as KKK members are not true Christians. True Muslims don't feel the need to convert people at gunpoint.

Most people would convert at gunpoint but as soon as that threat is gone, they would shed that faith immediately, as your example shows. Islamic theology, by the way, forbids forcible conversions. The only time that it was allowed was during the time of Prophet Muhmammad when Muslims were engaged in a life and death struggle with the pagans of Arabia who were hell-bent on destroying Islam and Muslims. But even those pagans were given a choice to either leave the land or convert. As most Islamic history books show, in the beginning Muslims were even forbidden to entice Christians and Jews away from their religion. The few Muslims who are committing these idiotic and dastardly acts are just thugs and do not represent Islam or Muslims.

islam don't need to force people to convert to become muslims. It is a commandment of God that there is no compulsion in religion.
The news! Well, I'm muslim here in the philippines, but many mistake me of a buddhist because i'm chinese looking. But when I was still a roman catholic, I always wore a crucifix. Now, if i ever made harm to anyone while wearing a priest garment and a crucifix now, the people will say what a rotten priest me and my brothers are. Not because i wore those garments makes me a priest.

If you study the history of Islam it has been that way from the beginning except of course then it was at the point of a sword. The Koran even says,"it is best that nonbelievers be converted, but if they will not convert then they should be killed."

It is a tenant of their religion. Muhammed took portions of Judaism and Chriatianity and he mixed them together and spread Islam by the sword. You either had to pay big $$ and live under Muslim rule or convert. Then when they saw that people would not naturally convert, eventually they took the payment option away and forced conversion.

While some may (eg., extremists), most Muslims do not. Islam isn't alone in that regards, BTW. The Christians had the Spanish Inquisition (one of the targets were Jews who were tortured into accepting Christianity).

my personal opinion is that it is most likely the same reason Christians felt the need to convert people at sword point. Sometimes people get so zealous in their belief structure that they have tunnel vision, making it impossible to see any other way. when this happens, other ideas become the Unknown, and people with tunnel vision tend to be afraid of the Unknown. We know that when people become frightened they act irrationally and lash out at the innocent because of their differences, even if they do not realize that they are afraid.

Here are some quotes from the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)(SAW)

There is no compulsion in religion." (The Qur'an 2:256)

"Surely they that believe, and those of Jewry, and the Christians, and those Sabaeans, whoso believes in God and the Last Day, and works righteousness their wage awaits them with their Lord, and no fear shall be on them, neither shall they sorrow." (Q. 2:62)

"If it had been thy Lord's Will, they would all have believed, all who are on earth! Wilt thou then compel mankind against their will to believe!" (Q. 10:99)

"To you your religion, and to me my religion." (Q. 109:6)

Shall I not inform you of a better act than fasting, alms, and prayers? Making peace between one another: enmity and malice tear up heavenly rewards by the roots.

Do you love your creator? Love your fellow-beings first.

He who helpeth his fellow-creature in his hour of need, and he who helpeth the oppressed, him will God help in the Final Hour.

What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of the injured.

Wish not for death any of you; neither the doer of good works, for peradventure he may increase them by an increase of life; nor the offender, for perhaps he may obtain the forgiveness of God by repentance. Wish not, nor supplicate for death before its time cometh; for verily when ye die, hope is out and the ambition for reward: and verily, the increase of a Mumins' (Muslim's) life increaseth his good works.

He who believeth in one God and the life beyond, let him not injure his neighbors.

Feed the hungry and visit the sick, and free the captive, if he be unjustly confined. Assist any person oppressed, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.

Assist your brother Muslim, whether he be an oppressor or oppressed. "Bu how shall we do it when he is an oppressor?" enquired a companion. Muhammad replied, "Assisting an oppressor consists in forbidding and witholding him from oppression."

The greatest enemies of God are those who are entered into Islam, and do acts of infidelity, and who without cause, shed the blood of man.

Those who try to should be asked about in the name of which God they act. That goes for Al-qaeda's and the Texan lot (no offence to Texan people).
All a big lie in the end, there's no God that needs to be forced on anyone at gunpoint.
