my brother in law has been in the navy for 19 years and he spends about 3-6 months away at sea and all he does is cook for the crew. if you want to stay on land, go army, air force or marines. you'll still be away from family and friends for long periods of time no matter which armed forces you go into.

There are a few jobs, very few that don't require long amounts of seatime. They usually make up for it in overseas duty though.
Musicians are one, and Seabees are another.
It's the Navy for crying out loud. If you dont want to be on a ship, join the Air Force or Army!

Depends on the rating you aquire in the service. If you have a job like an OS or ABE you will be on ship deployment about 60% of the time, but ship deployments are usually only 6 months at a time.

Absolutely. Many naval bases such as in San Diego have a large number of Sailors who stay on shore for their jobs. A large part of where you do your service in the Navy relates to your job, and not all rates are suitable for a ship.

Yes. Each rating has a ratio of ship to shore assignments. A boson mate spend almost all of his career on board ship wile someone like a Yeoman spend 1/3rd of his time on board ship

10 years in. never went to sea. if you're trying to find a path that doesn't go to sea that much then look into the intelligence/crypto fields.

Wasn't me...but being a military wife sucks. If you ever marry in the military please please please...acknowledge your wife also makes sacrifices to support you.
Love and respect your wife and you will get it in return.
