it is long and wavey and brown...

That's the way my hair is--I love the long, wavy look! I try to leave it down a lot, because I like the waves. I wouldn't try to straighten it, because that's a pain, and it doesn't turn out very well. Plus, waves are in right now anyway. I like to do messy up-do's with my hair too--those look best with wavy hair. Try doing it up in a messy bun--NOT secretary style :) (use bobby pins to hold it in place, and add some "chopsticks" if you like that style). If you like, wrap a ribbon (or 2) around your head with up-do's--pastels and bright colors look good against brown hair, depending on how dark your hair is. I also like to wear my hair down in a low pony tail, at the nape of my neck, for a simple style. If you like sort of retro looks, try doing it in a low ponytail off to the side, 80's style. I like experimenting with hair accessories like hairagami--sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. Remember to be sure you buy accessories that can accommodate a lot of hair, because most jaw clips, etc. aren't meant for long hair. Also, the french twist is cute...but doesn't work, as far as I can tell, on hair that's longer than about two or three inches below your shoulder. When I have time, I wrap sections of my hair up in little circles and clip them down with miniature octopus or jaw clips. Sometimes I do all of my hair, and sometimes I just do the top part. That's a fun, casual look--just don't be a perfectionist about getting every hair in place. Leave a few strands hanging out, especially around your face. As an extra bonus, when you take the clips out you'll have ringlets.

As far as styling it, I wouldn't bother blow-drying it much unless your hair looks really bad when you let it air-dry. With long hair, blowdrying takes forever, and waves/curls usually look better when you let them dry naturally. If you have a little frizz, use some lightweight styling cream. I recommend John Frieda's frizz-ease line, or his brilliant brunettes line, both of which have great, really lightweight cream that you can run through your hair in the morning. I like them because they don't leave my hair looking/feeling stiff like gels do. And if your hair gets tangled (as long hair tends to do, it seems :), try keeping some spray-on conditioner on hand to use before you comb your hair out. The best I've found: Loreal kids. Honestly. My younger sister let me have hers, and I love it. They have different scents, and they're not little-kid smelling. I have the pear scent, and it smells really fresh. A great wake-me-up in the morning!

Hope that helped!

Trust me, while it's just wavy and not curly you can do whatever you want with it, just with a little of imagination. And of course, it depends of the occasion.
