Unfortunately, very gravely unfortunately, Spirit Walker, it seems to be true. Surveys have been carried out, even by the USCCB and the results were frightening. Many, many Catholics believe various things ABOUT the Eucharist but not fully as the Church proposes it for our belief.

Why? The causes are legion and interrelated but I consider the most important to be the atmosphere which the general misapplication of the rubrics of the New Order of Mass (1969) has produced. Example - the Eucharist is the true Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ and the Mass the mystical making present of the Sacrifice of Christ, once only and for all, on the Cross - so why do we banish tabernacles into corners and hidey holes? Why do we put the Sacred Host into dirty and unwashed hands with phone numbers written on them? Why do we no longer kneel to receive Him? nor genuflect when we pass the tabernacle? Why do some priests behave like Johnny Carson on the sanctuary? Why do we chatter away in church as if nobody were physically present there but ourselves? How do we expect children to have the true faith in the Eucharist with all this going on?

Find me a good, sincere, bible-believing protestant who converts to the Catholic faith and you will be hard pressed to find a cradle-Catholic who will exceed their love and devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. e.g. Scott Hahn. They are dedicated to following where He leads and when they find Him, you can't tear them away!

Catholics??? Like so many spoiled children of our own time who cannot appreciate what has been given them, they take Our Lord's presence for granted and end up losing their faith in His presence. Habitual sin is another eucharistic faith killer. "We DON'T WANT Him here on earth! Banish Him to heaven, where we don't have Him near us and feel safer to sin and relax and console ourselves with the thought that if he isn't physically present here then maybe he doesn't exist at all..."

I have gone on too long. Sorry. But it's a huge question.

Very few relgions actually practise this in the way Jesus and his disciples did. Most, like the Catholics and Protestants, have made it a ritual.

The Disciples of Jesus were prepairing to celebrate the Jewish high holy holiday of Pesach (Passover) and this particular meal was on "preparation day" or the day when the house is cleansed of leavening.

Thus the bread may still contain yeast. That can be an option.

This was a whole meal, with lamb, probably veggies, bread of some type, wine (grape juice and water are allowed in Jewish traiditions, but wine is preferred), bitter herbs (such as horseraddish or salsa).

Jesus broke bread (this differes from both Catholics and Protestants who use waffers or little crackers) and it was passed from man to man.

The glass of wine was probalby passed from man to man.

Jesus wanted them to incorporate him into the Passover ritual, probably on Prepairation day, for all times to come.

Jesus said they would once again have this meal in heaven in his father's house after the end of times.

If you really want to learn the process go to a Jewish Household the day before passover and see what all they do.

Also see what is involved in the Seddar dinner.

That puts you close to what Jesus and the Disciples did that night.

Remember, this was NOT passover, but the day before passover!

They were getting ready for it.

It was the day before meal.

Christians adpoted silly pagan traiditions like eggs because Peter, Paul, John and Constantine were dealing with Turks, Greeks, Romans, not Jews in Bethlehem or Jesrusalem.

The Eucharist, in it's true sense, is a meal with meat, herbs, bread and wine.

I try and celebrate this on the actual anniversary (which I have pinned down as April 12 under our current caldendar) as well as the day before the Jewish movable feast of Passover.

I'm not a lamb eater so I use beef or chicken.

I get Kosher wine.

I find flat, yeastless Mexican or other bread (corn tortillas are yeastless) and use horseraddish or salsa for the herbs.

Pita bread could possible be acceptabole on the day before passover.

It's a very traditional middle eastern bread, but it does have some leavening in it.

I have not yet tried Matzoah

Seems a little too commercial and too dried out.

I can't see Jesus breaking that crackery stuff and passing it around the table.

They might have had some type of pita made without leavning.

particular they do. The Eucharist is the middle of the non secular life of Catholics. it is source of all graces - God Himself in Flesh and Blood, along with his Soul and Divinity. it is likewise why priceless metals are used for chalices and ciboriums via fact the terrific ought to be reserved for God. Tabernacles do reserve Jesus Christ interior the Flesh and the Hosts are stored decrease than lock and key so as that persons can not desecrate the Blessed Sacrament, the physique of Christ.

Catholics, if the truly believe, think that the wine and wafer are transfomed LITERALLY into the body and blood of "Christ", respectively. They (a lot of them) don't believe it because a lot of them are just publicly conforming and as such are hypocrites. I wonder just how many of them realize that what they are doing is actually a form of ritual cannibalism? I think it is more acceptable in the mind to take the communion as a symbol and not as ACTUAL body and blood of "Christ", and that DOES make more sense anyway - the transformation of the wine and wafer is called "transubstantiation" - do you think that this REALLY happens? Be realistic - its a symbol, not a reality.

Depends on your definition of "Most Catholics" and "Believe"

ALL real Catholics should, some may have forgotten.

Jesus said, "This is My Body"

Not "This is a representation of my Body"

Peace!

Please state the source of you alleged facts.

It would be interesting to find out who polled 1.1 billion Catholics worldwide to come up with this un-Catholic statistic.

With love in Christ.
