All of it is nonsense. Anyone thinking about it just a little can see how ridiculous it all is.

I've answered this before. The corruptness of many religious leaders and their condoning, or at least complacency, for atrocities throughout history does lend credence that they don't follow what they preach.
It all comes, like everything, to a personal exploration and conclusion of how the universe works. Ever since I was a little kid (5 or 6 years old), the idea of God and the stories of the Bible are akin to fairy tales. I went to church. I did Sunday school. But it just seemed like I was trying to make something real that wasn't. (Like going to Santa Claus and hoping that a fat man really would come down the chimney, but, alas, nothing happens).
After studying science and engineering, there isn't a whole lot that cannot be explained logically, without mysticism involved.
Each person has to decide that question for themselves.

Atheists do not believe in a single malevolent omnipotent sometimes benevolent psychopathic god having dominion over the universe. They see the world as it is and not through superstitious glasses.
Religion itself especially those of a christian base have proven to be a cesspool for evil to brew in. Yes I get that some find peaceful fellowship but that isn't enough for me to forget everything I know about the earth and its people and turn my life blindly over to a deity that by "its own" (as some man wrote it down) admission is a jealous god who is afraid of the other gods that it freely admits exist (though many christians refuse to see this passage for what it is - worship no other god before me - gee god if there aren't any then what's yer point?!)
We have no difficulty leading good and helpful lives filled with love and compassion and meaning.

Atheism is the affirmative disbelief in the existence of any divine or supernatural being. According to that belief the world is "what you see is what you get" with nothing behind the curtains.
Many also have scorn for the hypocrisy of many religious leaders, but that is more a matter of how they view the religious organizations, rather than their personal beliefs about the nature of reality.

Atheists don't believe in any kind of god or deity or superstition. Most atheists tend to be very scientifically minded and "belief" and "faith" are foreign concepts to them.
I am not an atheist but I read a lot of critical thinking materials by atheists. The JREF is a good place to start if that interests you (link below)

It has nothing to do with the way religious people act and everything to do with not believing in any thing spiritual like a supreme being .

The part I don't "accept" is that there is a god of any kind.
The fact that overly religious people are assholes is just a bonus.
BTW, Atheist literally means: NO(a) GOD(the)
-ism = quality/state
-ist = one who practices
That is reality.

Atheist literally means "Without god." Atheists simply do not believe that any gods exist. Beyond that atheists believe many different things.

The only bits atheists don't accept are god, the soul, heaven and hell. Some of the music isn't bad, though.

It is simply the fact that there is no compelling evidence to support the existence of god(s). And the evidence that is purported to 'prove' the existence of god(s) is... Hmmm... What's that scientific term?... Oh, yeah... 'Stupid', I guess, pretty well sums it up.
