I hear it's cold as Hell, but there is no gang violence.

There is no gang violence but the summers are mild. It gets up to 70 °F at the equator in the summer. I would be more worried about that whole breathing thing: 95% carbon dioxide in the air on Mars and only trace amounts of oxygen.

It is a good place if you have the proper heating facilities available or just wear some really warm clothes.
