When I watch tv the picture is great but when I watch a widescreen show or movie I notice where there is no picture and the screen is black there are some really light white dots. You cant really see them but you can if you acutually stare at it. Does anyone know why this is happenning?

Due to the way LCD and plasma screens are made it is very rare to find one that has 100% fully working pixels (dots). You will find the odd dead (permanently off) or hot (permanently on) on most screens.

There are some standards that are followed governing how many faulty pixels are acceptable and it depends on where they are on the screen. A few dud pixels at the edge of the screen may be perfectly ok but even one bum dot in the middle of the screen could be deemed unacceptable.

If you are unhappy with your LCD screen then take it back and see if you can get an exchange or a refund.

They are called "dead pixels" and can either be always on (light when the background is dark) or always off (dark when the background is light). If you have more than about 7, and the set is still in warranty, you should be able to get the manufacturer to replace ot repair it.
