In the morning when the temperature is generally 40 degrees lower than it is in the late afternoon and there is considerably less light energy my soil pH levels are in the 6.0+ range.. and in the afternoon when it gets to be hot and sunny they drop to 5.5 or lower range... can photosynthesis speeding up throughout the day change pH levels that dramatically?

probably not.

The pH of water is 7.0 so if it's cool in the morning and the soil is damp, the pH will be closer to 7.0 (6.0). As the water evaporates, the soil pH may increase or decrease depending on its natural acidity or alkilinity. Adding water will bring the pH closer to neutral.

40 degrees ! Where do you live ? Anyway, yes photosynthesis does cause pH levels to vary.
