Protect it from the sun. Use shampoo designed for red hair. Don't know any bottle reds that don't have this same problem.

Ask any stylist and they will tell you this one true thing...
RED fades! It's actually one of the ONLY colours that never last's. It's in need of constant touch ups.
The best you can do is use COLOUR proffesional products that are specific to your colour.
John Freida has a line of products specifically for RED hair so does Loreal and Pantene. No matter what product you use, Your still going to need to re-do the colour fairly often.

Use John Freida's Radiant Red collection. The Luminous Color Glaze will recharge faded red hair with a dose of glossy color, supple texture and blazing shine.

Pantene restoritives, spray use on back top crown of head this is the driest area, Use a darker shade of red I color mine the brightest and then Highlight so it holds longer, Also new product by "Sunsilk" Color holding lotion you put it on after you wash before you dry, run this through to ends . also let conditioner set on hair for 5-10 minutes once a week, this helps your hair retain color.

Try color glazing betewwn touch ups. Because color glaze is semi permanent it will not dry out your hair. It also adds shine to your hair. In fact glazing can be done with in a few days on coloring to make the red more intense and last longer.

When I was coloring my hair red, I was told by a colorist that red hair fades the fastest...and that there really isn't *too* much to do about it

Shampoo, conditioner and styling products made for color treated hair. Also, getting your hair colored at a salon that uses high quality brands will help.

Use a shampoo that locks in color. I also color my hair a dark color so the first few days I use a color lock in shampoo. They are a little pricier but worth it.
