Gabriel, Archangel of the most high, General of the Heavenly hosts, appears in all the books of the three Great Religions.
They are as follows, in the old testament (Torah), he is the Angel who drives Adam and Eve out of the garden and guards it with his sword of fire, The new testament (Christian Bible), he is the messenger of the birth of the Christ, finally, he appears in the Koran as the messenger to Mohammed.
Gabriel is the warrior Archangel, he is always seen with the sword of fire which is said to be righteous weapon of God. He has also done battle in the heavens and was present at the testing of Job. He is also said to be the right hand of St. Peter at the final judgment.
Hope this helps.
BTW for all those who are not intelligent enough allow me to offer some education, In Hebrew it is Jehovah (Yeshua), in English it is God, in Arabic it is Allah. Same God, different languages, so please keep your idiotic bigotry and ignorance to yourselves. The question was honestly asked, so please show respect and answer properly.

The Angel Gabriel is "one of the seven angels who enter and serve before the Glory of the Lord." This is spoken by the angel Raphael in Book of Tobit Gabriel appears in the Old Testament in the Book of Daniel twice, not in the Torah which is the first 5 books of the Old Testament. The Book of Daniel was not accepted into the Jewish Canon.
[Dan 8:15] While I, Daniel, sought the meaning of the vision I had seen, a manlike figure stood before me,
[Dan 8:16] and on the Ulai I heard a human voice that cried out, "Gabriel, explain the vision to this man."
Footnote:
[1] The angel Gabriel is mentioned here for the first time in the Bible. There is wordplay in the preceding verse on geber--manlike figure.
[Dan 9:21] I was still occupied with this prayer, when Gabriel, the one whom I had seen before in vision, came to me in rapid flight at the time of the evening sacrifice.

I believe Gabriel is still good and these people are just going off the movies. Movies writers want their characters to be biblical to seem more...epic and there are only two angels mentioned by name in the bible, Gabriel being the more grand name. As for praying to him though, I'm sorry but this does nothing. Angels can only do what they are told to do by God when it comes to us. Praying to them therefore gets nothing done. Also the only way to reach God is to pray in the name of the son, Jesus. I think it's awesome that you are curious about this and have noticed this pattern :)

no and yes....
first Prophet Moses (pbuh) was selected by Allah and he gave him the ability to perform many miracles and also to be able to speak DIRECTLY to God.
God gave Moses (pbuh) the ten commandments directly without Angel Gabriel.
but Prophet David/Dawood (pbuh) received the Psalms and i think that Angel Gabriel delivered God's words to him
(Allah knows best)
Assalamu Alykum!!
Peace.

He's mentioned in the Book of Daniel.
Angels are only messengers. Just focus on Christ, don't worry about angels!!
