I have 30 or so free range rabbits so the dogs eating one isn't an uncommon occurence. If he's up to date on shots, etc. it should be fine. The only thing you'd have to worry about it tapeworms, which dogs catch via eating dead things. They'll appear as rice-like segments in his feces. Your vet will have some Droncit that you can give him by mouth to kill the tape worms. They're not really dangerous, just a nuisance because they can cause itching in the rectal area.

I make sure my dog gets all his shots every year just for this reason. Dogs will be dogs, and at heart, they are hunters. Wild life carries all kinds of diseases and parasites that can easily transfer to your dog. Let's hope that rabbit wasn't carrying anything in the event that your dog hasn't been inoculated. If money is a problem, look in the phone book for a low cost clinic.

if your dog is up to date on his rabies shot he should be ok. I would not give him dog food for a while, the rabbit may have upset his stomach. Feed him plain white rice and bland chicken for about a week, let him get all the yuck out of his system and then ween him back onto his regular dog food. That is most likely what the vet would tell you. if his bahavior changes or he is not acting well, call your vet. good luck

Well you could call your local vet clinic and ask the person who answers about this to calm yourself. Your love of your pet is touching. I know my cat eats squirrels and chipmunks all the time, and mostly i am concerned that he'll get worms from this habit. Animals are natural hunters. You can be proud that your pet is so good at hunting. My cat often leaves the dead animal on my doormat as a love gift. Do call your vet clinic or humane society and ask their advice. Worrying about it won't make it better, acting (calling someone who knows) will help!

Your dog is vaccinated, right?!
If your dog is vaccinated(which any good pet owner should do), you have nothig to worry about.
He threw up the rabbit becuase it was to large, hairy, and bony for him to digest. If he continues to throw up his food, take him to your veterinarian to make sure he is not impacted, or "clogged up."
Rabbits are pretty safe as far as diseases go. Watch out for opossums and racoons, which often have rabies.

Huskies are known to wander off and kill and eat things. My sister in law had one on a farm...all it did was get loose and kill chickens and ducks. If your dog is fully vaccinated, I wouldn't worry. However if she is not immunized, and has bite wounds, I'd get her vet attention. If he ate a rabbit, why feed him? If he ate that AND his dinner, it's no wonder he threw it up!

as long as your dog is current on shots, he should be ok. My dogs have eaten rabbits and other small crittters and are fine. watch the dog though. if he acts sick, take him to the vet.
