What would modern day Christianity be like, if there had been a "Jess" vs. "Jesus"?

A woman wouldn't have been allowed the freedom Christ was given with regards to public assembly. She wouldn't have been free to preach to men she didn't know and more than likely would have been stoned as a harlot for her unconventional ways and thoughts. If she had written, her writings would have ended up with all the writings of the other women who wrote books of the gospel ...hidden away to protect the male centric world from the "evils of women".

Excellent question... it's something I hadn't even thought about :)

An interesting twist, and to twist it even more "If God had sent HER only daughter...." Seeing life from the female perspective would give life a different outlook. What if every newscast was done by women, or if women were Doctors and men were relegated to low paying, dead end jobs? Or if all pronouns were in the feminine and you were including males even when you said 'she or her'? What if you only watched female sports figures on TV and everybody worshiped them? Or if qualities a woman possesses were the truly and only admirable characteristics, such as compassion, forgiveness, nurturing, instead of brute strength? What if you learned from very early childhood that you were to be a second class citizen and your sole purpose for existing would be to please a male? Or to bear children? That your opinions didn't matter? What if congress consisted of females only? How would that affect your image of yourself? What if you were taught that your hairstyle and your manner of dress was what is truly important, not the affairs of the state? How would you perceive the world if you saw others of your sex constantly portrayed as victims of rape, domestic violence or child sexual abuse? Peace.

I do not subcribe to the notion that god is human like .
This notion is a work of my christian brothers and as such we've got this fantasy.Soon some would say god is gay/bisexual cause he created homosexuals (jesus is darn pretty)on the same note god could be girl or lesbian, because iam sure he/she is way too advance and knew a thing or two about artificail insermation.Iam not mocking god, christians did.

Absolutely, it would be much different ,if it existed at all. Women were about on the same level as cattle when it comes to being respected. Paul's writings reflect that accurately. Jess would have been easily dismissed and probably stoned to death or sold into slavery in BFE. Never to be heard from again.

You must read, "The Gospel According to Mary Magdalen," by religious scholar, Karen King. I think the entire perception of Christians would drastically change after reading the book because they would realize that their holy book was deliberately edited to remove anything that did not adhere to or agree with the male gendered philosophy of the day.

That is a very interesting question. I think it would definitely have had an affect on Christianity and the role of women both in the church and in the home.

Christians would not exist... If a Mary claimed she had the daughter of God....she and the daughter would have died a terrible death, maybe stoning...

well women had really no power in those days. even a well thought out argument and scriptural quotation would have done very very little. i am not even sure how educated the populace at large was in that area and what the % education of women was.

Well, no one would have listened to a woman back then, so even if the "daughter of god" really was what she claimed, no one would have followed her, and there would be no Christianity today.
