My sister is 18, married, and living with our parents with her nine month old daughter. She sleeps all day and they are growing pot in the closet. My mom called the cops over last night and they released the baby to my sister and her husband; neither of them want to work (unless you count selling dope) and have barely scratched the surface as far as providing for the baby. My mom is the sole provider for all 3 of them and I just can't believe that drug use isn't considered child abuse. Not to mention the fact that they sleep all day and leave her in the swing, dirty diapers and all. my mother and I contacted the department of social services and they said there wasn't really anything we could do just now.

I don't know it depends on if the social worker really cares and pushes it hard because my first cousin is the same way.She does drugs with every pregnancy and they find it in her system and they don't take the kids away.I called social services when she told me that her kids were saying daycare people were touching them down there because she was to lazy to do anything about it.She was just worried she wouldn't have a babysitter anymore if she said something. Then her daughter recently was molested by her uncle no one pressed charges and my cousin just let it go like it was no big deal her little girl is only 5.She has had social services called on her probably ten times and they haven't done anything so i am guessing you have to find a social worker that really cares and will push the issue until something is done otherwise you are SOL.

I think that you mother has done about all that can be done by notifying the authorities. As far as you sister and her husband laying on their butts all day, that sounds like a kick to the curb situation to me. Find some way of taking the child legally, give the parents some money to get started on their feet as long as their feet aren't planted in your home. Kick them out!

Keep the authorities informed continually... mom should think about kicking them out instead of being their meal ticket... what incentive is there for them to get jobs when she's footing all the bills? She should also try to get custody of the baby... they (sister and husband) are irrresponsible and unfit to be parents.

If you have to keep calling the authorities until that they see there is a problem. I don't know the exact term but, there is something for having drugs around the child. PLEASE PLEASE KEEP AUTHORITES ALERTED.
