It was used since long before the 1960's it just made a comeback during that time. It may have come over from England where police were referred to a Rozzers and Rashers muddled forms or derivatives of chazer the Hebrew word for pig, I believe it just evolved over time.

Me being a child of the 40's the first time I remember hearing it was in the 60's while attending my first war protest. Here come the pigs, I didn't know what to think until I got hit with that damn stick. I was just there for the chicks.

Maybe from Animal Farm. The pigs got some power on the farm and eventually starting abusing it. Just a wild guess to be honest.

I don't know. The first time I ever remember hearing it was during the 1960's when I was a teenager. It was used by a lot of protesters back then.

Not sure. I've always heard it as a kid. Now that I are one I have heard that it's an acronym for Pride, Integrity, and Guts.
