I just started college, and I feel like everyone around me is so much more fit than I am. I need to go from 220 to about 160....FAST. I realize that i can't expect a miracle, but i have never really been one to work out or do any fitness related activites. Any ideas on how to go about this?

I would cut back on the snacking and try to eat foods that aren't processed (veggies, fruit, meats and grains). In addition, I'd hit the weight room. Lifting increases your metabolism for longer periods of time than aerobic exercise. I'd still do some aerobics but focus more on the weights. But before you do any of this, check with your doctor to make sure you pace yourself to prevent injury...

Good Luck!

Try the following : do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. The 45 minute thing is not true, but don't over 60 minutes at a time.

Do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read fitness magazines, like Shape and Fitness for motivation and tips.

Good luck and stick at it.

Losing a lot of weight too quickly will have a very hazardous effect on your body. Losing too quickly will put extra strain on your heart and other organs. Just start eating healthy, cuting out fatty and high sugar foods and start an exercise program. Try to get at least 30-60 minutes of exercise 4-5 times per week. You should aim for no more than 2-3 pounds weight loss per week, that is the healthiest way.

Eat less and excersise more. I joined a local health club and would work out everyday on the stationary bikes for about 45 minutes, spend a little time playing around in the pool , do the circuit weight training .. I would spend about 3 hours there on a daily basis . and within 2 months I had dropped over 40 pounds. I wouldn't expect to lose more than 20 pounds a month without hurting your internal organs. Good Luck ! :)

Quit drinking pop if your like me I am addicted to it. However, I went from 5 32oz a day. To 1 24 oz. I also started exercising, start out slow. Try walking 1-2 miles 3 or 4 times a week. Also cutting back on your sweets. Only eat when you are truly hungry and stop eating when you feel satisfied. That is how I lost the rest of my pre pregnancy weight. Good luck, I know its not easy.

Eat healthy! 80% of loosing weight is your diet. Eat a balanced diet of protein & healthy carbs. If you have lots of fat to lose; try the HIT program (High Intensity Training). Like walking then sprinting as fast as you can for a minute, then slow down to a walk again. Do the sprints as long as you can increasing your time each day. It's better done on an empty stomach, so your body burns the fat stored for energy rather than what you just ate. Watch the calories you drink as well; drinks can add pounds that you don't realize. Drink lots of water! I wish you much success!

The Cambridge Diet would be excellent for you! I lost 17 lbs just in the first 3 weeks and most lose closer to 15 in 2 weeks. It's HEALTHY too. Of course, I saw my doctor before beginning this diet because I had multiple health issues and she gave me the thumb's up. It's the only diet I know that safely produces this rapid a weight loss. It's cheap too and actually tastes good, however, it comes with a money back guarantee so if you don't like it you can always return it.
