Especially verses 26 & 27.When he refers to the Book of Moses

Thanks all.In verse 26,Jesus is saying that
after the wife and husbands are gone to
heaven, there would be no reason to judge
who is the rightful husband because they
would all be as angels(apparently NO ONE
is married in heaven). The Sadducees of
course didn't even believe in the after-life
so they were either just curious or trying
to trick him.I'm not sure which.Well,I thank
you all for your help.God bless.

the Sadducees were trying to corner Jesus by asking this question - the question contains information about the law when Moses was alive. Jesus answer was simply this - In heaven there will be no male and female.

Thank you for asking a good question!

Mark 12:18 Then the Sadducees stepped forward--a group of Jews who say there is no resurrection after death. They posed this question: 19 "Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife without children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will be the brother's heir.[c] 20 Well, there were seven brothers. The oldest of them married and then died without children. 21 So the second brother married the widow, but soon he too died and left no children. Then the next brother married her and died without children. 22 This continued until all the brothers had married her and died, and still there were no children. Last of all, the woman died, too. 23 So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her."

24 Jesus replied, "Your problem is that you don't know the Scriptures, and you don't know the power of God. 25 For when the dead rise, they won't be married. They will be like the angels in heaven. 26 But now, as to whether the dead will be raised--haven't you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses,[d] `I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.'[e] 27 So he is the God of the living, not the dead. You have made a serious error."

The Most Important Commandment
28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the discussion. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, "Of all the commandments, which is the most important?"

29 Jesus replied, "The most important commandment is this: `Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.'[f] 31 The second is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.'[g] No other commandment is greater than these."

Jesus is telling us there will be no marriage in Heaven. We will be spirit. There will be no men, no women only spirit.

Another scripture that will follow this up is: Galatians 3:28
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, [ Greek Jew or Greek.] slave or free, male or female. For you are all Christians--you are one in Christ Jesus.

In verses 26-27 Jesus is telling us, He (God) is the living God. He isn't the God of the dead. When we die...we will not be dead but our spirit live; it will go on.

How cool is that! God / Jesus ROCKS!!!

((I threw in 29-31 for good measure...lol))

Grace and God Bless!

In the old days, if a man died without leaving any children to a woman, it was the husband's brother's responsibility to marry her and give her a child in the name of the deceased husband. In this story, the Sadducees are trying to trick Jesus into saying who would be the true husband. He basically says that unless they are joined by God, none of them.

When he mentions the Book of Moses, he means the first five books of the Old Testament, all written by Moses.

Book of Moses is the Law or first 5 books of the Bible. Jesus was talking about the burning bush. See Exodus 3:2. This shows that there is life after death.

Marriage at the Resurrection
18Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19"Teacher," they said, "Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and have children for his brother. 20Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23At the resurrection[c] whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?"

24Jesus replied, "Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 26Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, 'I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'[d]? 27He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!"

God is the God of the living and Jesus will tend to us when we go to heaven

Actually these verses teach that those who get to heaven, will be as the angels, no longer male or female, therefore no need for marriage.

Side point, all angels in the bible are pictured as grown men. (cultural thing)

vs 26,27 show that these faithful men are in Jehovah's memory, (John 5: 28,29)

Not a thing is being taught about the after life. There is NO AFTER LIFE. There is no life after death. You are dead, period. While you are waiting in your grave for your resurrection life goes on with out you. You really should not read into the Bible what it does not say.

He was clearly trying to teach you that you should worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Or satan.
