why do they say firemen and policemen are heros when they get paid to risk their lives wouldnt a person who isnt highly trained and paid to run into burning buildings to save people be a hero and not a fireman?

They get paid to be policemen and firemen. But when the chips are down, a guy who is willing to run into a burning building to save the life of a total stranger IS a hero. I don't care if he's a CPA on his lunch hour.

Anyone can be a hero under the right circumstances. We sometimes take for granted policeman and fireman because we EXPECT them to do such things as part of their job.

We really should not take them for granted.

These professionals need motivation to do the risky act again and again !
Real heroes do not look for payment or training, and have a high charged battery within, which keeps them going, what ever happens, .... infact as they say, When the going gets tough, the tough get going... this is for real heroes, not paid professionals, though there are exceptions even amongst professionals !

Anyone with courage can and has done the right thing. I don't necessarily believe in labelling them "heros"..

As far as Cops/FF/Paramedics...My hat is off to them. They purposely put themselves in harms way to protect the rest of us.

there are heros because they put their lives on the line. does your job require you to put your life on the line? maybe you would think different if you ever needed one and your life depended on them being there.
