My son has been on his Pacifier Since 3 months old. He only uses it at night To go to sleep and then he drops it out of his mouth for the whole night. Lately tho it has started giving him a Rash where it sits because Of his drooling. What is the Easyest way and the less Stressful way to get him off of it? he is 19 months old and If I can get him off it it would be alot better for the both of us. is cold turkey the best way or Weening him Off it?

He is still young and his pacifier is his security. But is he has a rash.. are some teeth coming out?

A friend did this:
First, she did set a new rule - pacifier only for sleep time.
Then, she prepared her daughter by saying that soon, the garbage truck will take her pacifier and bring it to the pacifier garden.
When the day happened, the daughter took it herself to the garbage in a box.
She was ok and ready to do it.

Good luck to you.

My son never liked his pacifier. But cold turkey is the best way! Being 19 months on a pacifier is BAD! His teeth are going to be so messed up. The longer you wait the harder it is going to be to take on off! My son was 13 months old when I took his bottle. I did it cold turkey. Yeah he cried, but he got over it!

I was watching "Super nanny" the other night and the family involved had the same problem. What they did was told the child that the pacifier (Binky or whatever word you use) fairy was coming around and needed the pacifier to give to little babies and if they were to give away their pacifier away they would get a treat the next day. They put it in a gift bag and tied it to a tree outside, then the parents replaced it with a gift in another bag and a note of thanks from the Binky fairy. It worked, hope this helps.

I wouldn't take him off of it cold turkey because mabey thats his security. So I would say ween him at least its not the bottle?RIGHT? My daughter was on her binkie until she was 3 i think and shes fine now her teeth and she just quite herself.

Cold turkey. When he asks for it or crys for it just tell him that you lost it. He won't cry for very long and he will be used to not having it after a few days.

I would do it cold turkey.. give him maybe a sippy cup of some mik or something before bed.. so he can still suck something. Get rid of the binkey tho.. ASAP. It will just be harder the older he gets. Hes already almost weaned off it, if he only takes it before bed. Good Luck

You get a box make it colorful...Tell him that the BINKY fairy is coming to collect all the binkys so she can give them to the baby's that need them... Then tell your child they are a big kid now and don't need them.. That night both you and your child put the binky box outside..And in the morning let them open the box to find a new toy wating form them..

my advice is to leave it up to him. I know people will tell you all kinds of terrifying tales, but he and that passy have been friends a long time,he will give it up when he's ready.when he's ready only. just try to keep it clean and talk to him about being a big boy without it ,but don't make it seem like all of a sudden his passy is a monster.cool out about it .all kids do what they need to do when they need to,not when the grown up decides they should change.

Cold turkey. He should have never been given one to begin with, but since you were weak and gave him one, do both of you a favour and be strong and get him off the nasty thing.

since he only uses it at night give him something else to hold on to but not the pacifier. using it to long can cause problems with their teeth as they come in
