The real difference is if you get seen on post or off. If you dont live close to post and you have to go to a regular doctors office then you have to deal with referrals and deductions. TriCare Prime lets you see whoever you want without a referal but depening on your husband rank you will probably have a dectutable, TriCare standard doesnt give you the option to choose your own doctors. I dont know how it is there but here at Fort Drum you have to enroll in TriCare Prime. I like it but Then I have always been seen on at an army base. The only time I had to use it for an outside doctor was right before we moved here to Drum and that was just a one time visit but it was nice to know I didnt need to wait for a referral that could take up to 2 weeks.

that ten dollars you are paying is for DENTAL insurance. There is no monthly cost for either version of TRICARE.
PRIME: priority for appointments at military treatment facilities. zero out of pocket costs. Prescriptions filled free at the base pharmacy. co pay for Rxs filled off base.(usually $9). You have a Primary Care Manager, who you must go through for any and all issues. Better if you require regular care or have a lot of prescriptions.
STANDARD: much more flexible in who you can pick as your doctor. Co pay for every visit. Rx must be filled off base, so no freebies. No need to go through a PCM for every issue. easier to get and retain a civilian practitioner.
When making an appointment off base though.. you MUST be sure its with some who is a PARTICIPATING PROVIDER of TRICARE, not just someone who accepts it. A PP will not charge you anything over and above what TRICARE allows. somebody who accepts TRICARE can legally charge you anything over what TRICARE pays for.
If you never enrolled with PRIME, you automatically were given Standard

I really don't want to misinform you. Go to the on post medical center and talk to the personnel in the Tricare office. Your best answer will come from them.
Good Luck

http://www.dewitt.wramc.amedd.army.mil/Tricare/Priorities.htm this might help you. I have Champ V.A. but that's for families of deceased or disabled vets. I think prime is the cheaper one for out of pocket. Since I don't know your situation it's hard to say. Good Luck.

Tricare Standard is less expensive, but your choice of physicians is severely limited. Tricare Prime is more expensive, but you have a lot of freedom to choose your physician(s), I believe you also have more benefits, such as chiropractic and acupuncture.
