I believe Satan can tell the truth - but only to serve himself.

That wasn't a very good witness. Satan tells just enough truth to make his lies convincing. You mislead people with your 'question', intending them to read the plan of salvation. But if they are not ready for it, this will only drive them further away. And by lying about where you were coming from, you discredit yourself, putting yourself in the same camp with the father of lies.
