Yep. It makes no sense, says hateful things that are in conflict with my own morals, and there is no more proof that it is the word of god than there is for God having personally authored the IRS 1040 form.

People need a religion. It is part of human nature. Atheism is one of the religions anyone can choose. Some pick the bible but only the parts they like, so their religion is also "man-made". A true believer is elected by God and "dragged" into being aware of the Word of God and its authority. Only being made perfect in spirit, no one can tell the difference between a child of God or child of Satan. The flesh still wants to do fleshy things, but a true believer is not really happy unless he/she is living life God's way. The single most reason for so many Atheists is the original sin of Adam and Eve which caused everyone to be born in sin, and until those elected hear the Word of God (bible) at some point in their life, the human nature will search out some religion, but it doesn't matter which one, atheist or otherwise, there is only one truth.

Everyone has a God, even if it isn't the same God described in the Bible. Today people also worship things like money, material things, science, aliens, ect. Unfortunately for us all, the spiritual message present in the good book is less emphasized than its sometimes funny laws and questionable explanations. We all seem to forget that the book is 2 thousand years old, has been translated a million times, and served a culture now distant from ours. While I also agree that some passages are funny, such as claims that "if it lacks fins or scales it should be considered an abomination", others are still perfectly relevant today, even for jaded, cynical 'non-believers' - whatever that is.

No. I understand the bible is a tool for metaphor and interpretation. Literal meanings died out when public found out that the bible was written on king constantine’s request when sorting out the rules of christianity. If someone chooses not to believe in god, it should be for presonal reasons, not just coz the bible is gay. That's not proving anything, either way.

Using the bible as a tool for organised religion, on the other hand, may have a part in it.

atheist, just for the record.

As an atheist, I can say it's not the Bible per s but the fundamentally unprovable nature of religious thought that drives me to a life of scientific inquiry.

Some might say that the bible is stupid and makes no sense. The bible does make sense, they just don't understand. So, why is the bible stupid because of the lack of understand on people's part. That's why churches have bible study to help us the bible what the bible is saying.

For starters whoever chooses to be an Atheist did because he/she want to. Its a personal race.

Secondly, anyone who thinks the Bible is stupid has only condemned himself. He is a lost sheep that must work on finding his way home cause anyone who doesnt have Jesus Christ is lost.

There is no way to the Father except through Jesus. Belive it or not. Its real. Heaven is real and so is hell. Its burning hot.

I suspect a bigger reason has been the influence of people who only claim to be Christians, but don't know God.
